They are the same genus, but different species.

Ok this is what started the question. I was on another site looking at
fish for purchase and everytime I would click on McCosker's flasher wrasse
it would route me to Carpenter flasher wrasse. I wish you could see
what I see.

yes they are two different fish..the body on the Mcoskers, Carpenters, and Yellowfin all look alike..but the filaments and anal fins is how you can tell them apart..a Mcoskers has one filament and its anal fin is red on the outer part..a Carpenters has 2-4 filaments and has a red and yellow anal fin..the Yellowfin has 1-4 filaments and its anal fin is all yellow..all three get mislabled alot and confused with each other quite often
