wrasse ?

my wrasse is a very big eater...i feed him shrimp and flake and now he is really going after my powder brown..he has bite marks all over one side..i saw him do it...he has also eaten all my snails...why would he do this

Because many wrasses are very aggressive. What kind of wrasse and how big is the tank? What are the other fish?

Dear hobbyist,you didn't say what type of wrasse you have ,how big it is , how big your aquarium is ,how large is your powder brown ,and if you have any other tank mates .

First off-Nice looking fish Did you just add the powder brown? They can be territorial once established for awhile but your tank is pretty big so it should give the powder plenty of space to get away. What I am guessing is happening is your wrasse is eating parasites off your powder brown which is not good when an adult wrasse is doing this. My lunar ate my emperor until he looked like chopped hamburger taking parasites off him. When wrasses are small it is no problem but when they get big and have big teeth -it is very painful and will kill the victim at some point. Unless you can get the wrasse out this will be trouble for your tang. Good luck with it because I never could get my lunar out and he killed my emperor.

Klunzinger wrasses definitely can be a bit aggressive, like most other larger wrasses.

I think this is a pinkface wrasse (Thalassoma quinquevittatum); there are a few wrasse in the same genus that look similar, and they change color a lot. I love this group of fish; but they can be quite nasty, especially to newcomers. Usually, after the pecking order is established, the wrasse will settle down and the new fish will learn his place. This group of wrasse is very active and, IME & IMO, they really are not real territorial; just very active and bossy. I sure don't know of anything you can do other than wait it out. If you can put the wrasse in QT for a while, then put him back so he's the newcomer; that may help.

for 4-5 months powder brown was 1st fish in the tank the wrasse was last...
the wrasse has been very food aggressive for ;ast few...hell even go right in the puffers mouth to take the shrimp out of it.i belive the fish guy when i bought it it started with an h...he is real agressive,,he ate 10 full size snails...
powder has no visible parasites..he is the meanest in the tank..

Dear hobbyist,in my 150,I have 3 wrasses ,The largest of the 3 is the Harlequin tusk,at 8". Although the harlequin tusk looks ferocious ,its docile . Then there's the Corris wrasse ,which is 7",and is destructive ,and loves to eat aggressively . My Cleaner Wrasse ,is 3" and can be a pest when cleaning the fish of parasites .
