Heard of a store in Pittston, Pa. , not sure of name. Also, in Bloomsburg,Pa., Miller's Reef, ON RT. 11, try them for a start. Lehigh Valley area try , Q-Pet in Quakertown, or (not sure of name ) on Macarthur Rd., ithink across from Olympic Pools...
Something Fishy just opened up in Northampton and it's just saltwater! The cheapest for LR is $4.00... Which I bought 50lbs worth, but I was just checking if anyone had any cheaper in the area...
arkey.d, i'm from Allentown!
I just heard of that place today from a guy i'm buying the filter from.
He started out in his garage!!!! I heard he has around 5000g of only saltwater stuff. He's only open on Sat and Sun from like 10 - 6.
How were his prices??
Would you like to sell any of your cured/established live rock or do you have any good live sand you would want to sell?
The store is awsome with the amount of corals. They don't have alot of fish yet, but it has become a weekly stop almost for me.
His prices are fair. I picked up 50lbs of Mixed LiveRock from him for $4 a lb (on sale) and an Orbit 4x65watt light fixture for $265.
I'm actually in the market for more liverock. That's cool that your from Allentown!
woh more local people. Im from northampton. Im about 2 miles from something fishy.. I do a lot of shopping at the store on 145 across from olympic pools. its called shear heaven. Prices are a llittle steep but the next closest place with any selection is Q-town. I went ot something fishy once but they had very little. may have been one of the first weekends they were there...
Yes it most likely was. I was there when they first open and the tanks were pretty bare. But not anymore! You should check them out again, especially since your so close.
yeah maybe Ill pop in this weekend. Im looking to get a LMB and an emperor angel. Seems no local fish stores stock emperors and the last fish I ordered online were a disaster.
computer consultant from Bath eh? Who do you work for? did you go to Northampton HS?
oh ok. northampton class of '98.. is your business hireing?
Ordered from marine depot and out of the 5 chromis I ordered, 3 were very sick right out of the bag and died within an day... The CC star melted down in less then a week after 4 hours of drip acclimation. and the fighting conch was the only thing I had no problems with... the chromis that lived ended up giving my hippo ich which I had to treat for a few weeks.. Ive been told this is a rare occurance but 1st impressions are hard to ignore.
Not at the moment. Sorry to hear about you fish order, that definetly bites. I hope they refunded you or gave you credit. I'v never ordered fish/inverts online. I'm hopping Something Fishy will supply all. They said that if you don't see it they will order it for you.
well they were willing to replace the lost, however I would have to ship the dead fish along with water samples overnight back to them... that alone would cost more then the $4 chromis so it was a loss. I had already spent more then the fish cost in shipping to get them here so I wasnt about to do it again to ship the dead ones back and yet again to pay for shipment of the new fish back to me. my $4 chromis would have become $25 and that just crazy
I see your point. I wouldn't have bothered either. But with Something Fishy close by, you shouldn't have to order online again.
I asked them about ordering me a AquaC Remora skimmer but I was told that they don't carry them and he couldn't special order it, not sure the reason. But they said they can special order anything else...
yeah Im going to be stopping over there saturday morning I do believe... Need to beef up my cleanup crew and maybe grab a LMB if he has any.
My current job takes me to peoples houses all over the valley and its amazing how many people are into this hobby... I was told about something fishy about 8 months ago by a customer in bethlehem... that was back when it was a garage business but I never got over there till they moved...
yeah sounds good... WHat do you have so far? I dont have any extra LR or I would help you out. Much like everyone else I need more of it 125gal tank with about 100lb of rock 1/2 live 1/2 base
Sounds good. Nice size tank denny80688!
I got a 29gal and a 55gal, the 55gal is going to be a reef and has 50lbs of LR and 40lbs of PlaySand and 30lbs LS and just got done cycling. I have a nice size patch of Alveopora Coral that came with my LR.
The 29gal is a Fish only with CC, but will be switching to LS and LR. Once I get my Skimmer for the 55. I found the place that I'm going to order from, that has free shipping, just need to wait a month.
The one time that I went to Something Fishy, the place was packed, I had to park on the street. I couldn't believe all the SW people around here. Maybe Todd there would sponser a reef club for the area.
A reef club could be a neat idea... Im still too chicken to try keeping coral and anemones.. well that and I cant afford the lighting requirements
I started with a 55gal FO with CC and fake coral in it as a display. Was a learning experiance to say the least!
When I moved to my new place I left the 55 at my moms place and bought the 125 from a fellow member located in NJ who was getting out of the hobby. Set that up with 100lb of play sand 50lb live sand and the 100lb of rock as described earlier. Let that cycle for a month then moved my fish from the old tank. I have been kicking aroud the idea of setting up the old 55 as an agressive tank or species only.. dunno yet though.
Yea, my Orbit 4x65Watt light fixture was my big present for christmas this year, it was that or the AquaC Remora Skimmer. I decided on the light because it cost a $100 more than the skimmer.
