It might come around if you give it some time just make sure it gets plenty of light. As long as its not getting to a point where the polyp stop pulsing or falling off it should be okay.

Hey at least you have a stalk of your xenia. I only have two tiny tiny blotches about the size of my baby finger nail for both and each have just one stem from them....

The culprit was my camelback shrimp whom is now gone but I think it is to late. I decided to just leave it and see what happens to it now that the shrimp is gone. It is not causing any troubles in my tank readings, I sure hope it comes back. Time and patience will tell I guess.

what do you have for lighting?? do you add iodine at all, i add 3 drops for my 75 gal and mine are doing fine, i also feed them live phytoplankton.

My lighting is "two" PC 20 watt each 50/50 coralife 10,000K bulbs. My 10 gal has an incandescent hood and these lights are just great for it. Don' t know if this is great light for xenia though.
I have not added iodine or Phyto I have heard from several different opinions about using these two things and the advice was not to add it. But now you say that you add it.
This is the only thing that is not doing well in my tank. Mine you I only have a large feather duster which I love and my assorted mushrooms which are multiplying like crazy. I would hate to send my system crazy by adding something I have never added before.
I honestly think it is to late for this xenia, but then again one never knows.

i'm not sure either, i was told the iodine would help the polyps to open more, ever since i started doing this theyve been doing well, the iodine i add is luguls iodine that is very concetrated, so i only add 3 drops, i also add Chromaplex and Coralaccel for filter feeders, mine have been doing very well, this is just from my experiance.

I add nothing to my tank, but I do a one gl
water change a week. ( with oceanic salt mix )
I do have some kent concentrated iodine. Should
I add it or not? And how often should I do it and how much?
Or do more water changes?

I wouldn't add anything for 1 coral that can damage the others. Give it a chance, but if it's dieing take it out. :D

I had the same problem with my xenia after I moved my tank with the help of the people on this board I figured out that a change in alk. was the problem. All I did was continue weekly water changes and withen a couple of weeks it was looking much better and now its back to normal and growing like crazy. so I think if you give it time it will come around.

I agree with avbryce1. Partial water changes once a week eventually will get all your parameters to normal as the tank matures. I dont add no extras to my tanks neither and they are doing great.

I had some xenia once that was doing well but then suddenly started to have problems. It was taking longer and longer to open each day. I started shining a flashlight in there at night to see if anything was happening with the lights out and I noticed a whole bunch of small crabs like emerald crabs but a different color that came with my live rock were just sitting on the xenia at night. Sometimes one would snip the occasional polyp but nothing major. shortly after that, the xenia died. Could it have been "harassed to death"?
