I think xenia are fickle. I had 6-7 large stalks shrivel up and disappear, only to have a tiny piece of one develop into another colony weeks later. I can't figure them out.

My xenias did the same thing and I found they recovered nicely once I moved them to a low flow area of my tank.

In my experience xenia need "dirty" water. I would notice that when the TDS out of my RO was 0, the xenia would slowly disappear. However, when the TDS started to go up, the xenia would come back. I would then change the membrane and filters in the RO and the xenia would once again slowly go away.
I have found that if you add a supplement that includes vitamin c to you tank, you can have success with xenia and still keep your other water parameters and TDS at 0.

This thread is all over regarding advice. That proves the general thought idea regarding Xenia; they are fickle little beasts.
Some have luck in "dirty" tanks. Other's only in pristine. Low flow, or high. Strong lighting and low lighting.
Some have observed it pulsing more when Alk and calcium are right on.... The list goes on.
Just know your tank. Your xenia may become great indicators for you that water quality is slipping. Then again, they may simply not like your tank.
Test all of the basics, keep up on your water changes with good water, and sit back and relax knowing you and thousands of other aquarists are in the same boat.

Thank you for the input,my water tests are good, and the coraline algae is speading pretty good, and from what I've been told if coraline spreads the water is pretty good.Have you ever heard that before!

I agree with journeyman when getting a new batch of xenia u may have to play a bit with its placement ive had frags do well in low-high light/low-high flow. when u start to see degradation or a lack of polyps opening I'd start playing with some new spots in your tank. Also something to keep in mind if you postion its rock angled and u see it starting to move towards the top of the tank good indicator it would like some more light
