Xenia running out my ears!

I have so much xenia in my tank...didn't know it was a weed until now! I frag it at least every two weeks and currently have 7 frags attatched to small pieces of live rock that I will be selling. I have heard something about a "xenia crash" and that it can wipe out a tank. Can anyone give me info on this? I really don't like having to frag the xenia so often but thought I heard that if it got too out of control that it might crash???? Is this correct? Any help is appreciated!

I went through a crash last year. They all just "melted" away over a few days. Didn't hurt anything else in the tank and never knew why. Had several other keepers in the area go through the same thing at the same time. Figured it might have been a seasonal thing. Some came back, mine never did.
Good Luck!

i had a xenia crash a little over a month ago. It was doing great, started off with 1 stalk and was 8 stalks in less than 4 months. It just melted away like jumpfrog said. Mine did harm everything in my tank: all my corals were retracted, fish stressed, snails and hermits not moving. I took it out, ran some carbon and everything recovered. For no apparent reason it just died, i will not be putting anymore in my tank.

thats strange I thought it was just me! But the same thing happened to me... They all crashed for no apparent reason tooo!!!! at the same time... I thought the little bit of skin frags on the rocks would grow again but I was wrong:(

Well I guess I'll keep an eye on them and hope that it never happens! I might be interested in selling them, but I get about $20 apiece for them at my LFS since they are aquacultured and so was the mother colony. So if I sold them to you for that and then added shipping I just don't think it would be worth it to you. Well unless your LFS is really high priced!

Our LFS (pretty reliable) said they don't travel well, so they only sell them when a customer brings in a bunch. They had some the last time we were there--they are sure cool looking.

Try placing some more agressive corals near the spots you don't want it to grow.I have some yellow polyps, that for some reason, keep the xenia at bay.Unfortunatly( really fortunatly) the polyps are growing like mad now too!My Xenia just made a "jump" overnight to an ajoining rock.In one night!Sometimes the stuff seems creepy how it moves.
