Is this a particular type of Xenia or is it simply Xenia.
Is it hard/easy to keep?

There are different types of xenia, but that looks like the most common type to me. It looks like you might have it in too high of flow, and not enough light. When it is stretched out really thin, it might mean it doesn't have enough light. Heres mine like 8in under vho's. It is very thick and shorter.

Looks like the same type I have, Silvertip or Elongata Xenia. I think its a really easy coral to keep but spreads like wildfire, but if you keep it pruned it won't become a problem. I have heard of cases of it melting away for no apparent reason but I have had no problems. I think it may also be a good source of Nitrate export. Red Sea Xenia grows a lot slower.

Thanks for the replies.
It's only been in my tank for a few days, I got it free on some Live Rock.
My lighting is only 100w NO, but my T5 lighting is on order.
The tank it came from was an amazing set up - I've seen nothing like it.
How long would it last in my tank with my lighting? Does it prefer low flow?

medium flow is OK and if your new lights are installed in quick order they should be fine for a short while under NO lighting. They will just stretch and reach. If it starts melting away then remove it ASAP.
Xenia is good because it helps consume some nitrates and chicks dig it!

If your t-5 is coming, you should be fine. Even if it shrinks down to just a little bit, it will probably come back in no time. It doesn't need low flow, but doesn't need tons either. Enough that it can stay pretty still, but once in a while have a good squirt of water over it. I have a SCWD and it makes the current awesome.

I am running T5's and mine have been doing fine, though it has spread from the bottom of the tank to the surface. I have a wavemaker so I don't have steady flow on them but the slower the flow the more you will notice them pulsing. Not usre how long it will last under NO but I had mine in complete darkness for 3 days and it did ok, though it was a little ragged looking at the end of the dark period.

The lighting issue has been dragging on and on now. There is a complete lack of compact bulbs in the size I want in England.
I could get another type but it would be 78w instead of 110w and then i would have about 90w T8 to go with it.
Why is nothing ever easy in life???
