XXL hermit with Triggers...

The shells are not the easiest thing to find. I put him in last night. After placing a few rocks where he wanted he seems to be ok......so far. I'll try and posts some pics of him in the 270 later.

Keep us posted, this could be interesting  Then again, maybe you'll have the same luck as kinkfish, & all will be fine. Good luck, & keep us posted

That is one unique hermit. I wouldn't risk it. I'm sure you can find a more suitable home. Tough decision. Glad it's not mine to make. Good Luck. Let us know what happens.

That is a Hawaiian Rock Breaking Hermit...about the size of a baseball? Had the same one myself. During the 6 months that I had him he soley took down a large Lionfish, Porcupine Puffer and caught him in the act of attacking a 8" Lunare Wrasse - whereupon I grabbed him out and gave him back to the LFS that said he was totally safe. THESE CRABS ARE NO SAFE IN ANY WAY! They actually HUNT fish, I watched him quickly scale the LR until he sat over and opening, wait for the Lunare to swim thru, jump on her back and push his shell down to hold her tail flat and begin to pinch flesh off of her sides. If you have ever seen or owned a Lunare, you know this is an amazing feat to hold one down.
My recommendation...a side of butter would make him a great meal! :D

Apparently it's not the triggers I should be worried about, it's the crab. I came home today to find the crab eating my yellow headed eel. The eel was about 12" long. My son said the eel tried to swim under the crab and he repeatedly stomped/ stabbed/trampled him and started eating him. The eel was still breathing when I pulled him out. Maybe it's time for the crab to find a new home.

Hate to say I told you so, but....

Sorry about the eel, let us know if he makes it.

In his previous home he was with a gren chromis, acouple of electric damsels, a scopas tang, watchman goby, and a tomato clown. I wonder if maybe he couldn't catch them?

My question is will it be ok in a tank with a niger, pinktail, humu humu, and clown trigger, also a large dogface puffer, harlequin tusk, and a couple of wrasses? The crab is bigger than any of the fish, so far.

I havea very large hermit with my Triggers.. They dont seem to pay him much attention..
But you trust those Triggers with that expensive Harlequin Tusk? Wow!!!
