They are commercially bred so at least you gotta chance. I bet you could totally support your hobby with a pair if you have enough lfs in your area.

is their any tips on getting dragonets to eat prepared food? My scooter will nip at flake after it touches the area around him, but would be happier if he would eat things as they are sinking. right now all i have is flake, i want shrimp, is mysis the best?

Mysis is the best, but the vast majority of mandarins only eat pods.

Not many people have much luck, eating prepared, id reccomend mysis if you want a supplemental food. I read a huge article on mandarins the other day, the day I bought him, they LOVE the eggs you put on sushi you know the little orange ones. The kind the put in Masago. They are also very nutritious, because threy have all the nutrition of the egg in them. Not very expensive either. They also eat fresh hatched brine. (They will eat adult brine, but adult brine is not very nutrtious. Baby (48 hr old) brine still has egg yolk attached which is very nutritious)

i hear they're just as hard, but not as common or watever cause of their appearance isn't as striking as a mandarin. i still think they're awesome.

Yep The scooter blenny actually is not a blenny, it is really a dragonet. Dragonets and mandarins are related, and they eat the same general foods : Pods, mysis etc.

If you add some vitamins and garlic in with the live brine, its healthier for them, but I believe both mandrins and scooters need pods also. My scooter mostly eats pods, but he will take live brine or frozen mysis, but some will eat only pods. Scooters are not really bleenies as a poster aleady stated, they are part of the dragnet family.
