Yea! I got my hubby hooked, now what?

I have a 33 gallon tall hex that is almot completely cycled 0 just got some dead rocks and sand and a few decaying shrimp in it!
Today my husband said he'd be willing to upgrade to a 100 gallon or so - now, before we put in fish and live rocks - but I can't find any local stores that sell one that size and I can't seem to find them on line either.
Anyone have any suggestions on places to look? I'd like to get it purchased now as he's really excited about the idea of some of the larger fish (and I'm afraid he may change his mind).
BTW, I'm in northern NJ - about 15 minutes west of NYC.

Try Absulety fish on rt 46 in Clifton. They have quite a few tanks on display and can special order one for you also.

I assume this link is okay because all they sell is tanks - and nothing else that SWF.com sells... If it's not okay - sorry...
www.glasscages.com
They make custom built tanks for VERY cheap.

Thanks for the Absolutely fish suggestion. How are their fish, LR, etc? There's absolutely nothing in my immediate area!

And double thanks for the glasscages referral. They're having a show in my area this weekend. I'm going to call them and see if they'll have a tank that suits! They're sold without hoods, so now I have to go out and find a hood/light, etc, but the price is fantastic for the stand and tank, so i'm off to expand my new hobby!

They seem to have a nice selection of fish and i've been very happy with the livestock that i've purchased through them over the years. I haven't looked at their live rock so i can't tell how that is. And as far as dry goods go I usually see what is recomended from others her on the board and then purchase online to save a few $$. THe 100 gal will be much better in the long run then the 35 gal hex that you were planning on. I'm currently in the process of setting up my new 90 gal.

Thanks a ton for the info! Any reason that I should get a 90 over a 135? Does absolutely sell liverock?

They have liverock in the back room. The 90 would be easier to reach over the side as it is 24 inches tall. I'm not sure on the hight of the 135. Where is the verdor show? Good luck with it and welcome to the board.

Rob,
Thanks for the ideas.
It's not actually a fish show, it's a reptile show - but glasscages will be there. The 135 tank and stand is $470 - but no hood or light.
I just called absolutely fish and they're not sure that I could get a standard hood for the tank - but we're going to go out there and take a peek at what they've got right now. They suggested a custom glass top.

There a tad spensive ... In hackensack by me there is reef encounter they have good stuff. For an example they have a few egg bound cleaners for 20 bucks... not bad if you ask me

Hay reefSOE, Where in Hackensack are they located? I haven't been there yet.
Klongo, Thats a grea price. I paid $300 for my 90gal with Oak stand and hood. It's also 8 months old. I found it on this board. This I though wasn't bad considering I have paid the same for my 38 gal. New from the fish store. I'm still thinking about the lighting as that is going to cost more than the tank and skimmer put together. Also I have to get the TV room finished so I can move the tank out of the Dining room where it's temporary stored as it's a little too large for that room.

Do you know what your plans for circulation are. With a custom built tank you can have them drill some bulkeads for you and setup a closed loop. PLEASE look into this now. I can't tell you how many people I've talked to that regret not having the tank drilled for closed loops or overflows.
Their 135 is 72 long by 18 front to back and 25 deep. Personally I like a lot of back to front and not so deep. If you're looking to stay in the same price rance and same 72 inch length, I'd go with the 125 wide (72X24X17) much better for a reef.
If you're not set on the length - consider a cube tank.....
Whatever you choose, good luck. Feel free to ask away on the closed loop suggestion..
