All the media exposure, Im trying people but I dont see why the WorldWide Media Blitz, every single News and Entertainment outlet.. I think a local gospel singer could be a hidden diamond and do just as well..

For once, I'm with you... it was surprising that she was pretty good but let's not go too crazy here.

well, I've only seen her do that one song. but it sounds like she is more of a classical type opera style singer than a pop singer. so yeah, I think she's a good singer. and probably has had little to no formal training. no, she's not going to be a pop singer. but most of those pop singers aren't great singers either.

it's not britain idol, it's britain's got talent. there's a difference. she'll be up against a lot of different types of talent
i just saw the video this morning, and i'm impressed with her... she needs a major overhaul once she continues on the show. but fame and stardom doesn't come with one show, it's all the hype you can make or is made for you that makes a person cross the line from a schmoe to a star. even if it is for a small amount of time.

the next appearance will make or break her.thats for sure.
just nice to see someone come out of nowhere ,crappy little town where she was picked on most of her life.
i believe opera singers have a longer career than most pop singers and make more cash.most operas i mean good ones are hundreds and thousands of dollars to see.
of course i wouldnt be caught dead at one.

that's where I think you're wrong. I don't watch American Idol that much, but I've watched it enough to know that most of those singers aren't that great. they are down to what, the final 10 now? that guy that got the low number of votes last night and the judges saved him....that guy was AWFUL. most of the ones who have won are not even that good, they're pop singers singing pop songs. this woman seems to be a classical/opera singer. BIG difference. she seems to be a REAL singer. she won't sell any pop albums, but like the other person said, she'll make a lot of money doing opera type stuff if that one song wasn't a fluke.

But isn't there more of a theatrical market over their since it is more part of their culture than it really is here.
Look I liked her, but I really do like some of the broadway stuff. Like Paul Roberson's Old Man River is amazing. And the song that she sang had the same themes to it. Except it was real life. It was brilliant.

but do you know the difference between a REAL singer and a pop singer doing bubblegum pop songs?
back to your first post, you said something about a local church singer being just as good. that's this point.....this woman WAS just a local church singer. probably never had a singing lesson in her life. she seemed to be great as it was. when she gets some vocal coaching, she will probably be beyond amazing.....in that niche, not a pop setting.

I would much rather listen to her than to Miley Cirus, or Hannah Montana, whatever you want to call her.

why Scott... she is just a pop singer and that = no talent apparently...
i guess pink, b.spe@rs, taylor swift and justin timberlake are all no talent voiceless bafoons too...

i can see what the craze is about this lady... she is the total underdog... she doesnt have the looks and was cast off before anyone heard her voice... but they had to giver her an oppertunity and got awed and that was instant romance... (much like cas haley, runner up, from season 2 of americas got talent)

I agree that she's no Paul Potts. That's what bothered me, I guess... everyone was treating her like she was the next Paul Potts.
Just in case you didn't know what I was talking about....

He obviously won the competition that year, and produced his own album called "One Chance"
That other chick, however, has less than once chance IMO... I can't even remember her name... what was it?

don't roll your cyber-eyes at me.
are those pop singers completely without talent? no. but all of those people you named are more about being marketed as a package than they are about talent. I don't know anything about Taylor Swift, but the rest of those people you named are more about 1) having good looks, 2) having the right PR people, management, and producers, and 3)having the right people writing songs for them.
look at all these people that become famous off singing songs that other people wrote. then, they suddenly think they're good enough to write their own songs. more often than not, it turns into a trainwreck. and most of these famous pop singers are very average singers. you ever heard any of their live recordings from the soundboard before it goes through all the processing that they have? some of them are flat-out awful singers.

cmon Pontius... what would one of my replys to you be with out an eye roll bro???
LMAO!!!
i get what youre saying about marketing and not writing their own songs, but all of those performers do have great voices... i dont like the bubblegum top 40 genre but some are talented... plenty of famous people have tried to sing and FLOPPED... its not just marketing and having the right song... its having the voice too...
i also agree that ALOT of them do use sound boards and sound nothing like their original voice, or have others sing for them while they are the face of the voice...

Pop singers have some talented people but not all of them. If you find have someone that is beautiful, outgoing and people like them, you can do some amazing things with effects. I've never heard Mylie Cyrus (sp) sing until the other night on TV. They had so many affects on her voice, she could not have hit a sour note if she tried. It sounded almost artificial. Not saying she can't sing based on the one thing I heard, but that was almost annoying.
