LMAO!!!
i get what youre saying about marketing and not writing their own songs, but all of those performers do have great voices... i dont like the bubblegum top 40 genre but some are talented... plenty of famous people have tried to sing and FLOPPED... its not just marketing and having the right song... its having the voice too...
i also agree that ALOT of them do use sound boards and sound nothing like their original voice, or have others sing for them while they are the face of the voice...
well, of course I can't go down the list of all top 40 artists and name out every single one that I think does or doesn't have talent. I listen to mostly rock, or at least everything that is guitar based. but let's look at a few there.
b.s..pears. ok, outside of looks, I see no talent that this girl has whatsoever. it's pretty clear that she was pushed by her parents at a very early age to be famous and got into that mickey mouse club or whatever it is. I've never heard her voice without the processing effects, but I doubt very seriously that she's a better singer than any average person you'd find on the street. she was found as a pretty girl at a young age and packaged/sold as a product, nothing more.
Pink. all I know by her (which is really all I know about all these other pop singers) are what I've heard on the radio....she has that faux-punk rock look and that false "oh I have angst like all the good artists from the 1990s" songs that were probably wrote by someone else. not really a good singer imo. pretty much, to me, an uglier but more likeable version of Avril Lavigne, who I also find to be pretty flat and untalented.
Timberlake. I think he's probably got more talent than the 2 listed above. but I think he started off as just another product like them, but spent more time around studios and record people in order to become a little better when he got older. I still think most of it has to do with producers/choreographers/co-writers, etc. but yeah, more talented than Brit and Pink imo.
that's all the current pop people I can think of unless you name more. but they're all pretty much the same to me.....pre-packaged bubblegum.
I think probably Michael Jackson and Madonna were probably the last iconic "pop" people that really did have talent. there's been others here and there. I think that drug addict Amy Winehouse could've been pretty good. but for the most part, I just see them as products more than people with real musical talent. that's why I think if this ugly duckling girl or whoever she has a little bit of attention and coaching, she would prove to be light years above those pop singers, as far as "talent" is concerned. though that's not my style of music either, I can at least see she's more of a "real" singer than these people that are just thrown in a studio and sold because they are good looking.
