I know people that have kept anemones under that amount of light but it is not really recomended if you are asking the question that is usually an indication that you should wait and get a little more experience under your belt before you try it. On another note is your tank 30gallons or a 29 gallon? If it is 30 gallons a 36" PC light fixture with 2 96watt bulbs will be better but from what you described it seems you have a 29 gallon.

I would recommend getting a T5 setup or MH before getting an anemone. ALthough an anemone may survive under PC lighting, that is all it will do... survive. You will have to spot feed it weekly and it probably won't grow much, and be unhealthy. People do have anemones under PC lighting, but it isn't recommended. When starting out with these fragile creatures, you want everything to be working for you, and setting up a tank with an anemone with PC lighting is just asking for trouble.
Good luck.

its a 29gal and why if im asking a question that is specific to my exact setup does that make me automatically a noob. isa 30" JBJ(JVJ was typo) with 2 65watt bulbs 1 10k daylight and 1 actinic. i have seen my friends doing fine under the same watt setup. but if you dont think so i dont wanna take the chance of killing it. BTA's supposedly do well atleast by other's experience. what do you think about one in my setup?

Instead of getting the anem that was at the LFS i ogt a hammer instead... so yaay for you. no im not buying T5 and i think most of you work for the companys that produce them

They were just trying to help you, and help you understand that nems and pretty sensative and "should" have more lighting, so no hard feelings

I'm sure you'll be really happy with your Hammer!!

A BTA is possible but not recomended, spot feedings will be a necessity and constant moving around the tank will be the norm for it.
Seeing as though they are considered one of the least light demanding anemones, my honest answer would be, no. Sorry.

Ninja keep an eye out for a nice torch coral too. It is a cousin of the hammer and frogspawn. The tentacles are longer and straighter than the frogspawn and hammer so they wave in the current more. I got a 3 headed one for $30 and when fully opened the total coral is probably 5" to 6" in diameter. Very pretty and peaceful looking and was my replacement option for a RBTA until I upgrade.
