Anyone know the requirements for them? Are they upper eschelon like lps and hard corals or more like green and yellow button polyps? Thanks for any help.

The Turbinaria Cup Coral is small polyp stony (SPS) coral. Other Turbinaria species may be referred to as Pagoda, Turban, Vase, Bowl, or Scroll Corals. The genus name, Turbinaria, is derived from the Greek word turbinatus (cone-shaped) because it usually grows in a conical or cup shape while living on the reef. It may also be found in the form of cups, ruffled ridges, plates, vases, or scrolls. Although the Turbinaria Corals may be bright yellow, green, brown, gray, or cream, the base of this Yellow Cup Coral is yellow, and it has yellow polyps. Depending on the conditions that it is exposed to, it can grow horizontally or vertically.
Turbinaria sp. vary in the amount of care they require. Those that are highly convoluted or have thin plates are the most difficult to care for. It is a peaceful reef inhabitant and does not bother other corals that are placed in close proximity to it. However, it should still be provided with ample space away from other corals because it does grow quickly. It will require moderate lighting combined with moderate water movement within the aquarium. For its continued good health, it will also require the addition of calcium, strontium, and other trace elements to the water.
It will benefit from additional food in the form of brine shrimp or plankton.

The info above seems to cover the pagoda(cup coral/Turbinaria) pretty well...not positive about it being a SPS type coral...I always classed it as a LPS type myself.
Mine has done very well under a combination of 4x65 10K PC's&2x110 super actinic VHO's...placement in my system is mid-way up the reef with a moderate current. Mine has never responded very well to direct feedings...but does seem to like a light spray of juices mixed with DT's whenever I direct feed my other corals.

I have mine 3/4 up in the tank w/ 440 watts VHO(220 10k & 220 Actinic) w/ moderate flow. I have seen it grab brine/mysis shrimp during feeding. I also directly feed it DT's. It has grown considerably since I bought it 4 months ago.

Too damn much snow to be honest. About 12" or so of frozen solid white junk! It's been between 0 and 25 degrees for about a week now and I'm hating it. As for Dutchess Cty., I think they give out a free Bldg. permit every time you buy a cup of coffee. Houses are going up everywhere! $400,000 - $600,000 on 1 or 2 acre lots. My wife also grew up in Wappingers (Tawana Brawley land). I'm from Westchester originally. Small World. Actually, I was born in El Paso, Texas. It must be alot nicer down there this time of year, but you can have those hot summers.

Actually, the I have had to bring my plants in! Sigh. Last few nights have been below freezing. Waaaa. Wish I had a winter like that as a kid, when you can enjoy such a thing. But gives you a reason to stay in and watch the tank!
It is a small world, ain't it?
