Hey all...I have a 55 gallon with the following in it...yellow tang, flame angel, clownfish, scarlett cleaner shrimp, bloood red shrimp, some blue legged hermits, zebra hermits, sally light foot, serpent star, snails. I purchased a small frag a couple of months ago that had 10+ yellow polyps on it. They have slowly disappeared!! They never looked unhealthy or unhappy, just slowly disappeared. There were 2 left on it this weekend and as of last night, they are gone. Any suggestions as to what might be enjoying them? We haven't witnessed anything picking at them...

How are your water parameters? I'm willing to bet your nitrates are way over 20. Yellow polyps are very hardy and spread like wildfire, so they shouldn't disappear on their own.

I test my parameters on a near daily basis, so I can assure you that it wasnt the nitrates. The polyps NEVER looked unhealthy. They would just be there one day and gone the next. They were literally disappearing one or two at a time. They would open up during the day and be perfect...come morning one or two less would be on the rock.

I call flame angel!!!! My coral beauty made a quick meal of mine about 2 months after being in the tank. He was very good about it because I did not notice it at first either. I was standing at the entrance to the room, looked across, and just so happened to see him nipping. Intelligent little guys

So I have been reading a lot of the posts in different categories and ran across something interesting....someone that says amphipods in their tank are eating their zoos. Anyone else aware of this happening and if so, could they possibly be the culprit in my tank that enjoyed a feast of yellow polyps? Seems like six line wrasse might be the answer to the amphipods.

Yup I would question the Flame Angel.
Yep I can see it now. "Where were you this Saturday night when these polyps dissappeared?"

You may want to consider turning him into the the authorities!
