Yellow Porites question (and a brain one too)

I got a yellow porites from a LFS on monday. I know that they have tiny polyps, but im paranoid that it isn't opening much. I've read that they typically open only at night, but I've also read that they stay open 24-7. Which is more common? I have about 130 watts of PC over a 55 and this guy is about 4-5 inches from the top, but it seems like the areas that are shaded on his body by other braches are extending larger polyps. I'm going to try some invert food tonight on him. btw, hes in an are that has medium current. Is that ok? Does all this sound like im worrying over nothing?
As a side note, my gigantic open brain coral is continuing to darken. It was a lime green with royal gramma purple edges, but it seems to gradually be turning forest green w/ maroon edges. It opens about 2 inches off the skeleton in all directions outward and about one inch upwards. It still opens to eat but I'm just scared that this darkening may be bad. does it sound ok?

The brain sounds as if its doing great, color change probably due to lighting change it was getting a different amount, type where it came from and is now adjusting to yours IMO
Not sure about the yellow porites no experience with one. Bump to those with experience

If the brain ever turns white then worry. Otherwise if he keeps his color don't worry.
The porites will open up given some time. They do need some kind of current over them. Nothing super strong but a nice little flow will help them open up. I think they filter feed to an extent so microvert food or phytoplankton will work to further stimulate them. They will open day or night.
Are they the bright yellow? I wish i had the bright yellow ones.

Porties need a lot of intense light just like any other sps. Yours may not be getting enough light with your current setup. They also do not a lot of current to keep them clean from detritus and algea build up. They also have a waxy skin that shed every once in a while to help keep themsevles clean.

Porities require a lot of light and pretty decent flow! I am afraid that you may not have enough light for it to survive! My came out relatively quckly after I brought mine home and it was pretty stressed when I bought it. If it isn't looking too good you may want to call the LFS and see if you can return it for store credit before it heads south.

I just looked again, and about half of it is fully opened. The other half is sloughing off skin, so it seems happy now :)
