Hey guys, iam looking for info on these guys. Mostly pertaining to there care and keeping. I know dont get a tiny one, after that are they any more difficult than other tangs to keep?

I have found them to be peaceful, beautiful and outgoing. On the downside, they can scare the h--l out of you when they wedge themselves into a crevasse in the rockwork, something they do when they are frightened, or sleeping. They require lots of swimming space, and must be quarantined since, like most tangs, are susceptible to ich. They like greens, but adults should receive meat too. The bottom line is that you will enjoy having one in your tank.

They are gorgeous fish. I have 3 tanks, but nothing in them w the blue of a hippo.

I loved my Hippo tang, in fact that fish is why I went to saltwater in the first place. just to let you know.....The Blue reef chromis have the pretty blue, and it shimmers in the lights, they have the black stripe as well and you can keep more then one.

Ok question. Iam debating getting a tang for my new tank. As far as qt it. Ive heard hippos, are stressed easily more so than others. So heres my question. Should I put it in first and use that tank as the qt before adding new fish?

I have done that in the past, and gotten away with it. However, if your hippo happens to bring in ich your treatment choices are limited in the dt since you can't use copper, and the larger volume makes hypo a pain. I would go with a real qt.
