I have had a yellow tang for about 2 months, it got ick once early on and went away about one month ago. Was doing real well made sure was eating. Then mysteriously next morining i woke up with him gasping for air wedged next to a rock and the corner of the tank. Looked like he lost half of his body weight over night. All tank parameters were good i had just tested them the day before. The only real difference i have noticed is that i use purple up and it is usually clear, and all of a sudden one day it was coming out white. Last night when i put it in it clouded up my tank for 30 minutes.
Any help would be great thanks.

They say Yellow tang are one of the hardest but I dunno I had two yellows in the past and it died pretty easily. Its probably hit or miss with yellows as well.

the purple up has milky grainy stuff in it, and you are supposed to shake it before you put it in your tank and it is usually a little cloudy, if you hadnt been shaking it and only put in the top layer of stuff and now you put in the milky bottom calciumy stuff that coulda choked him out???

thats what i am wondering i can not remember if i had been shaking it before or not, i am assuming i didnt. Can i still use the purple up or should i not use any more i have about 1/3 of a bottle left. any other ideas on what could have killed him....and any idea why he was nice and fat and then the next morning he was all bones.

Will def get rid of the purple up and try something else, no he did not have any red spots at all and for phosphate i wrote that wrong it is <1.0 mg/l. Even if it was the purple up that killed him, what made him lose half of his body weight over night. I also was unable to go to lfs so i picked up some distilled water and added that to my tank. is that Ok?

i assume it has more to do with water quality. u cant be adding stuff into ur water without testing it. how r other fish doing? i am assuming u r using tap water, which not only contain phosphate, but other hard metals and things that could hv been toxic.

no i only use ro water except this time when i used distilled from the store. so i should not have any of the hard metals.
