yellow tang digging in sand

Is it normal for a yellow tang to dig a big pit in the sand? It has dug a large pit all the way down to the glass. It is in the same spot where it sleeps. Does this mean he he is stressed or something? He seems healthy and happy to me, and he has never done this before (I have had him for 6 months).

i have never heard of a yellow tang digging but it does not surprise me. those fish have so much personality that i don't doubt that one might be capable of this both physically and mentally. i'm no expert, but iwould say he's not stressed out. probably just doing what he thinks is natural. kinda like triggers. they love to dig under rocks. be careful though. don't let him get crushed by a big ole rock.

Mine does the same thing. IMO, I think they are establishing territory. But as stated in prior post. Watch out for falling rocks. Rearrange or fill-in the hole as needed. I've never had one fall, but there is a first time for everything.
