Yellow tang in a 30 gallon?

Can a Yellow Tang live in a 30 gallon? Maybe with 2 damsels and a Maroon clown? That was the setup I was thinking of doing.

i really wouldn't put that many fish in a 30 gallon because your gonna have a high bioload. also most people don't recommend putting a yellow tang in a tank that small. most say atleast a 75 gal because that like to roam a lot and need alot of swimming space but its your tank your choice.

well, how long will it be untill you get a bigger tank, if you not going too upgrade anytimes soon (1 month) justsay no....how big is this tang? plus that might be a little bit too much fish for a 30 gallon. mabey take out the damsels or maroon

If the tang is small enough it will be alright for a while but once he gets bigger you'll definitely need to find a larger home for him. Yellow tangs can get up to 7 inches long in captivity and they need lots of swimming space and hiding spots and a 30 gal just can't give the room tangs need.

I believe a 30 gallon is way too small for a Yellow Tang of any size. If you have ever watched one...they are swimmers. To coup one in a smaller tank like that would be wrong. Even a small Yellow Tang cruises the tank. Same with the Atlantic Blue Tang.

I think the tang would be too big for a 30 gallon... except for juvi's but how long do u think they will stay small? However, as sebae said, it's ur tank, ur choice. But just give yourself a favor and remember that it isn't ur life. So I think for temporary juvi's u'll be fine. Just as long as u have a back up tank.

Welcome to the board, apparently you are new to ask that question, this board has the big bad "TANG POLICE" as you just witnessed, which i am not a member of, my suggestion is if that's what you want then get it, and when he gets too big trade him into the the lfs. Now let me take a breather O.K. I AM READY TO BE FLAMED NOW:rolleyes:

not flamed in the least... or i hope not. That is exactly what i think but (s)he just needs to be aware of the fact that tangs will get too big for a 30. But when that happens he will see it.
As i said before, a juvi will be okay but once again prepare for the inetible... the tang will get overcrowded.

Everyone TAKE A GOOD LOOK!!!!!!!! See this is how adults dissagree without flaming, you put in your two cents worth, then the next person etc.... Take notice that everyone is not supposed to gang up on one person just because their opinion is diffrent. thank you killafins for being so polite. I am amazed:eek: ;)

haha... thank you melissa. There are plenty out there who try to prevent what is so called flamming. A few saved me, i think his name was Aveter or something... i don't remember. But yes.. there are plenty of ways to disagree without flaming someone.

The reason why we say no to tangs in small tanks is that tangs like to swim around alot and they do not tend to be happy in smaller tanks.
now, to answer your question "Can a Yellow Tang live in a 30 gallon?" Yes, but for how long, i don't know. And the tang may not be happy since he won't have much room to swim.
In the event you do get a tang, remember they need to eat green foods. Also, they tend to be prone to illness so be sure to qt.

the only problems I have with tangs in a small tank is
Most of the time, they do NOT get moved or traded when they should
And
Borrowing fish is not the goal fo most of us here, so trading kinda defeats our beliefs. this hobby has come so far, and many of us pride in the fact that we do keep the fish and things for long periods of time. Not that we temporarily are able to do things.
I have to agree with the flaming gripe though.
