yellow tang problems

I have this yellow tang who is missing half of his dorsal fin. It does not look like fin rot and otherwise he is perfectly healthy. He has always been like this. Any ideas why it is like this, possibly injury from being caught? I have had him since he was a baby, but I always thought fins would grow back. Any ideas?

As long as he is in good health he should be allright. Ya know, fish have growth problems just like people. Same with all animals. Sometimes, they just turn out ugly, but they're that much stronger. My friend got a freshwater angel for free cuz it was missing its gill covers, and it has lived going on 7 years now. LOL, he use poland spring water for his tank though... BUT, he may have either goten bitten, or just not been born with that part. Post a pic just in case and Ill iD him for ya.
