My yellow tang is really doing good. He is one of the brightest ones I have seen. I feed him a good varied diet. Certain parts of him especially towards the edges seem to have an orangish tint lately. Is this common? I'm positive it is not a disease thought maybe it had to do with certain things in his diet. Anyone else experience this? You can sort of see it in this picture; hard to photograph.

My yellow has it as along as I had him, over two years now, and he is ok. I would not worry about it. The fish scales are transparent, so its just his flash.

Yellow tangs can take a beating when it comes to water quality. People cycle tanks with them sometimes. See if his behavior has changed, but I woulds say that its nothing.

The water quality if fine. ph 8.2, ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10, steady 81 F and 1.025 SG. I really don't think it is any kind of problem. I wouldn't call it a reddened area. Hard to explain exactly. I liken it to variations among fish. For example some flame angels are more red and some are a little more orange.

Looks really yellow in this crappy picture. Can anyone suggest a good digital camera that I won't have to sell a kidney to buy?

I wouldn't worry. Sounds like you just have a subspecies, or just a nicely colored one. I have a really deep red colored volitan lion, and he was bought that way, and I have seen certain fish at the lfs that look a little different colored. I think it's a subspecies thing, or the region they came from. I ran accross a shri lanka website that sold fish, and I was amazed how different some of the fishes colors were compared to hawaiian fish or red sea fish. If your really worried just give a shout out to beth in the disease forumn and she'll settle it for ya. Good luck, ali:happyfish
