yellow tang

my yellow tang seems to be seeking affection from my other fish. he extends his fins and slowly eases his way next to the fish and turns almost horizontal, then tries to rub up against them. does this to my dragon goby and niger trigger. has anyone else seen this behavier?

the tang is bulling the other fish. The rubbing beside the other fish is to jab that fish with the barb as the base of his tail.

i dont think thats the case. its almost like the tang is trying to get the other fish to rub his side with their fins. nothing aggressive about it. they almost hold a pose like that for 10-15 seconds. they seem to be enjoying themselves.

my tangs do the same thing. no matter how cute it looks, it is not a loving gesture. like jwtrojan said, they do it to show dominance.

I'd also agree that the posturing is the yellow tangs attempt to establish dominance...not extremely aggressive but by presenting the spine used for defence it is a means of saying "go ahead...mess with me"...at the same time I believe the actions you are seeing is one of the reasons lots of folks comment on the "personality" of yellow tangs....sounds like they are just being themselves and if no major aggression develops all will be fine.

My tang does that to my face when i sit in front of the tank with my face close to the tank. He's telling me Im the boss not you :D He also does it to my niger trigger. I dont think hes ever hurt him though but he does get real close to his side alot.
