first of all did he have this when he was purchased? what are the tank water readings? what size tank is it? is he eating? what are the other inhabitants? i would put him in a hospital/qt for now. maybe a shark or someone else good on diseases can tell you what he has. bo

Are the spots black or white? If it looks like brown algae, I assume it's black spot. I typically use garlic for ich and I've heard it works for black spot as well... though, I haven't personally verified this. Try looking up garlic on this board... especially in the "Disease and Treatments" group.
Hope this helps

Oops, I just noticed you said brown dots... so, I would suspect black spot. Try garlic. Freshwater dips supposedly clear this up quickly as well, but I like garlic... Hell, I love garlic!

Sounds like black spot. Tangs are prone to it. Very easy to clear up. I used a copper sea cure treatment...can't remember the exact name, but my naso had it one time and it was gone instantly.

Guess what guys got my first out break of ick. The yellow tang i think has it, but the weird thing is, the blue damels are picking it off of him. i just started the ick treatment today june 1,. It kills the ick in two days so will see if i works. He is still eatting he just started rubbing on things. my hospital tank needs a better heater. or i would put him in there the heater sucks all it has is a higher or lower control. not the degrees on it. So i have to get a good one. so when im done treating for ick i will do a water change. you figure if the tang has ick. the other fish will. so i will just put it in the main tank and treat it in one shot wish me luck. thanks for the info..
