Yellow Tang

Is it normal for a yellow tang to act like it is blinded when the lights first come on in the morning? It runs into the glass and rock for a few minutes. Then is normal again.:notsure:

Much like other organisms, fish need to adjust to increased light levels, going from darkness. What you're seeing is natural, but it can be prevented by gradually increasing the amount of light in the tank. If you have actinics, turn them on for a couple hours to allow the fish to "wake up", then follow with the daytime whites. If the actinics are startling the fish, try some ambient room lighting first.

I was having the same problem, especially when my tank was new. Because of the whole brown algae situation. I agree with Nicetry, if you have a lamp in the same room as your tank turn that on first prior to turning on you aquarium lighting system. Im looking forward to purchasing a 24 hour lighting system in due time.

Other than adjusting to the light, which is the presenting problem, an otherwise healthy fish would not be bumping into things, so I'm not sure what your reasoning is here. My point is that for the comfort of the fish, you should not go from total darkness into bright light in a short time. This is stressful and can cause the disorientation symptoms he is seeing.

Ok I tried turning on a hall light first for about an hour and then the tank lights and he was fine. IT WORKED! Thanks for all your help.
