Any fish will last in a small tank, the question is for how long? Unfortunately not very long at all.
They're VERY strong swimmers!!! Have to watch for those blades!!!! They'll slice you up easily, mine haven't done it yet, but I've been watching!!!!!!! :happyfish

Or changing color is another way to tell!! My tangs just hides when I put my hand into their tanks. The only ones that stays around in my bow front is my Trigger, the Yellow Tang goes in hiding, in my reef tank, my Naso goes hiding but my Green Chromis and Clown stays around. My Clown (Nemo) is getting a friend in a month or so, whenever my friend goes to pickup the replacement for me. It's over 4 hours away, but she goes there all the time. Mine's tank raised, it's raised by a reef club member and he's replacing it for me, it disappeared the day after I got it, dunno where it went. Checked everywhere, he was gone when the lights came on so he probably died overnight and the hermits and other crews probably ate it. At least my Nemo is doing well and growing.... :happyfish

I hated when I lose a fish. But he did travel over 4 hours away and probably wasn't doing very well when I got him. Out of the two, the one that is doing well is the one that looked much better and healthier when I bought'em. I can't wait to get his new buddy. I just got some new corals, acclimating right now, have to go check on'em.... :happyfish

Your tang will be just fine. I had a 4" and a 5" in my old 45 gallon. They were fine and "happy". :happyfish

Why do you have to travle so far away to buy a fish? (Or is it just clownfish?)

Everybody has their own opinion usually based upon what they read and their own experience..Yes< I think you can have a tang in a 50-55 gal tank..but eventually
you might find the tang either becoming more aggresive or worse withdrawn..

No, I bought them at the frag swap last month. We had a meeting here locally and he traveled all the way over here with all his baby clowns to sell. I just found out I'll be getting it within 2 weeks. I can't wait!!! :happyfish
