Yep, defense and sometimes even aggression/marking territory(as my kole tang did the first few days with my new angelfish.)

As stated above that is normal. They need alot of swimming room like 6' and a varied diet to include lots of greens. Hope that helps and enjoy. They are pretty huh?!
