My yellow tang has started to develop a reddish tint in the area just before the tail fin, almost a peach color. anybody ever seen this before?

You may want to test you water quality, especially ammonia. Just as a precaution. As far as I know this is not normal coloration and could be the result of an injury or ammonia burn. HTH

You may want to put this in the disease forum for a better reply but...
What you described is something that I noticed on my yellow a few weeks ago. There was no other change in the behaviour of the fish.
Hopefully you will have the same result that I did. The coloration only showed up when the fish was perpendicular to the surface (swimming normally) and around some rocks and caves. It was simply being caused by shadows and lights and had nothing to do with the fish at all. I had repositioned a few of the rocks, and this apparently was casting shadows and diverting light differently into that area. It just happened to be an area that the yellow hangs out in often, so it caught my attention.
I would be more concerned if it were reddish in appearance, but follow it up in the disease forum just to be certain.

I had exactly the same thing going on with my Yellow tang. This is what I did.I did a 10gal water change in my 55 and fed my fish food soaked in Garlic Xtreme or Vita Chem. What ever it was it was gone in about 5 days. I still dont know what it was but it used to move around different parts of the fish.Ive read that Tangs respond this way when something is wrong with the water. This is what worked 4 me. <img src="graemlins//angel.gif" border="0" alt="[angel]" />

yes i believe yellow tangs can be stressed under different water conditions

What are you feeding your tang? Discoloration or loss of yellow color can also be attributed to the lack of proper nutrition. I am not saying that you are neglecting your tang, but the lack of proper diet is a possibilty. They need there greens for their yellow ;)

I have a yellow Tang and this is HLLE Head and Lateral Line Errosion. It is due to lack of a proper diet. Specifically they are lacking Omega 3 Fatty acids. I occasionally soak the food I feed my Tang in Zoecon which does wonders and also feeding my Tang Nori which is dried seaweed sheets helps him out a lot. Feed him a lot of different things and he will be shining yellow ;)

I agree with the diet problem. I added zoe soaked seaweed to the diet and the problem went a way.
