Did any of you see the aquarium in the house of the new Sureal Life on VH!? It's MAYBE a 40 gallon tall tank with about 8 yellow tangs in it, maybe 10 (about 3 1/2 inches each). Just wanted to see if anyone else saw it. Obviously pure tourture, but of course it LOOKS AMAZING. I know it's about a 40 gallon tank becuase I have the same one!

Ya know what's even more sad is that most of those tanks are contracted out. Whoever set it up, knew what they were doing and that makes me nausous (I can't spell that word), but anyway, money before the health of the pet.

I know what you mean. It looks absolutely AWESOME, but it's just wrong. I watched it again and counted 10 yellows. They have 1 white dead coral in there with thm, nothing else. It stunning, but like i said , sad!

they had the same thing on "surface".
miles hatched his little creature in the tank, and it ate all the tangs.
they also had a more packed tank in the movie "mars attacks". its the scene with martin sheen picking up the alien hooker and bringing her back to the "kennedy room"

Surreal Life uses a 75g tank and has 6 Yellow Tangs among other fish. You're right, these tanks are contracted out. Keep one thing in mind, though....taping for the Surreal Life only lasted 12 days. :)
Nip/Tuck....AWESOME SHOW!!!!!! They use a 125g saltwater tank with dead bleached coral and few fish. Not sure of it's contents, but I am sure that it's not overstocked like Surreal Life.
Real World (Austin) - I believe that this is the first Real World that they have used freshwater. The tank decor makes it look like SW, but the livestock contains of various species of Cichlids.
HTH ;)

I have noticed a lot of tv shows and movies have very eleborate saltwater setups and one of the most common things in them are yellow tangs and blue hippo tangs. A lot of times it seems to be quite a few of each. I just hope the fish find good homes after the filming is done...

If ya think thats bad the same set up is in Captain Pikards ready room in Star Trek. I bet even our resdent old timers have no idea what the effects of warp speed travel, the pretty much constant bombardment from photon torpedoes and Warfs horrendously bad breath may have on the poor tangs in that tank

Just the most torturous thing I have ever seen. I am calling peta.

I saw them do it on one of those home makeover shows that takes 3 days. When the wife returned home, they had a brand new tank all stocked with fish. A 75 gallon SW and I counted over 10 fish, and about half of them were tangs. So much for cycling I guess

Another show like that put in a 300 gallon tank and claimed it was "the largest tank ever put in someones home"..... I just laughed....

TV in general is rotting everyones mind.
I was talking to a friend of mines kid the other day and told him when I was his age there were only 3 channels to chose from and one of those was PBS. The poor kid almost had a hart attack.
Another time some friends came down from up north for vacation. In the condo they were staying at had an old TV without remote. The kid literally had no idea how a TV with out remote control functioned. He looked for the remote for a good fifteen minutes before he gave up and went outside to take a swim.

The one on Sureal Life cannot be a 75g. It'ds small. It looks exactly like my 40 g. And I paused and counted about 8 yellow tangs, no oterh fish but tangs in there.

This thread also puts me to mind of the Airport reality show I was watching a few weeks ago.
It seems the guy had been flying out to his dealer to pick up rare specimens and was always allowed to carry on the bagged fish for his flight home. This time however it seemed the airline had changed its policy and he was forced to leave the fish behind until it was picked up for overnight shipping.
So there this large adult angle sits in a bag at some secretaries desk in full light where they think its a good idea to shake the bag vigorously when the fish stops moving to make sure its still alive.
I kind of have my doubts that that fish is still with us.

I saw a homemake over show, I think someone mentioned it already or maybe I saw a different one. But they put a fish tank in a kids bed room. I remember it had atleast one yellow tang in it so it might not have been over stocked. The show was supposed to be only over a few days and most of the time was building the house, I wonder how much time they had to actually set up the tank...

I've watched every episode of Nip/Tuck and the first season there was a good shot where I wondered if it wasn't over stocked, but in all subsequent shows, I don't think the tank in the office appears over stocked.
I never noticed the dead bleached coral though.
Maybe one day if I go through the old episodes I have when I'm bored, I'll notice that.

There is always the possibility that this tank is framed out to look smaller with a huge sump and daily monitoring. It could be that there are many more tangs and other inhabitants in the system and what you are seeing is just a sample.

Saw an episode of "Law and Order something" where they had a 20 gallon freshwater setup (fake plants, pea gravel, etc) and a yellow tang swimming around in it...
