When you say "another" do you mean you had one and it died or now there is 2 in the 55 gallon? Tangs stress out really easy especially in a confined space. All new fish should be put in QT when brought home. Anyway, you will need to retrieve him so way and get him into a qt.

we for the most part do no quarantine new fish. when we bought the 3 yellow tangs we learned...w/in 3 days they were COVERED w/ ich. we caught them and treated them and now they are fat happy pigs. we even posted a thread asking to what the secret was to keep tangs alive and healthy. it was extremely frustrating and we have 2 cleaner shrimp and a fire shrimp that were trying to help w/ the problem. im gettin a hippo tomorrow, and first thing im going to do is put it in quarantine!! w/ tangs i think it is really important to qt them

I also had the same problem with yellow tangs. The first one I got had black ich and died within days. The second one also had ich but once I treated it (using hypo) and it got "used" to living here, it has done great.

No. The other died from the same problem. If the ick was caused by stress, than why was it in perfect healthy condition in the 10 gallon at my LFS? The problem with QT now is, I have 100+pounds of LR. How am I supposed to get him out?

you need QT and to treat the fish and do it urgent because your other fish can infect to.
i don't no why you put a new fish direct to the tank and not spend the money on QT (that will keep your main tank healty) and you said that you already know that this fish had ich
i don't want to be rude but like that you destroy a good tank that you already runing

Like I said in my first post, I bought the fish at the pet store I work at. It has been in QT for two weeks. I didn't need to QT the tang because I know the systems in the Pet store. I guess I just have to find a way (not possible) to get it out.

do not feed the fish in your tank now , if you have a plastic bucket (like a mineral water bucket 1 gallon) cut it stick inside seaweeds an put 3/4 in the tank and stay way keep one hand or connect to this small wire the fish will need to time to get use to it and when he will get in pick him up . or you can try to catch him with 2 net. it will not easy and it's depend how much the fish hungry.

so here it's evidence that alawes we need to quarantine new arrival for 4 weeks and this is the best way to have at home QT that the water match to your system and not to the store.

I recieved a fish shipment today. They went straight to the QT. Fish are very hard to catch in a reef and you cannot do hypo or chemicals in a reef, so I QT.
Your system may have ICH if the tang was QT'd at the store for 2 weeks and then 2 days in your tank. You will need to go fishless in the main tank for 6-8 weeks so the ICH can fully die BEFORE introducing anymore fish.
When placing a fish in QT they need to stay there for 4-6 weeks to insure they are not disease carriers.
Good luck catching the fish in the main tank.

would your main tank crash, or go through any spikes without any fish in the tank? could you leave the cleaner shrimp in the main tank, or does all need to leave. I also had a yellow tang that got black ick and died today. now my hippo tang is looking like she is getting ick(white spots)they come and go through out the day.i really couldnt deal with all my fish catching black ick. any ideas.?
