Yet another coralline issue

Coralline had finally spread to my base rock.. this neon green and some dark purple. Today the dark purple is white and the purple on my live rock is light purple instead of dark purple. I know that means it's dying but not sure why. Any ideas? The only thing I've added is a sump 4 days ago.
Tank:
55 gallon
Set Up : 4/26/07
260w PC's
22x water flow
Sump:
20 gallon
3 chamber with 'fuge
Water:
Amm 0
Nitrate 0
Nitrite 0
Phos 0
Calc 360-380
pH 8.2
Alk 14
SG 1.026
Temp 79-80
Livestock (not sure if it matters)
2 nessarius snails
3 tubo snails
5 hermit crabs
1 yellow tail damsel
2 peppermint shrimp
3 green chromis
1 hawaiian featherduster
1 xenia frag (put in today)
1 orange zoo frag
1 diamond goby (maybe, haven't seen him in 10 days)

might take your calcium up a tad, 420 or so, but be aware light purple is not necessarily a sign that it is dying.

Easier said than done.. been putting in Reef Complete but my calcium hasn't moved up any... Alk and pH are good so not sure why the Calc isn't moving. I just finished off my bucket of Instant Ocean though and as soon as I get my new bucket of Reef Crystals I'll try a water change (even though my last water change of 20% wiped my tank)

Wiped out your tank? did your temperature match the new water? Did you Ph match the new water? Did you check your Sg of the new water or just follow the package directions? Most salt will only bring Sg up to about 1.021 if you follow the instructions.

Did it all Spanko... took the water in to the LFS for a full test and all water parameters were correct... no one has a clue other than that I broke out in a rash the next day on my forearms .. the only part of me that had been in that water. All's well now though!

He has just crossed over into the twilight zone, and in the process turned from a beautiful female into a male with a tank problem. Her only hope is to get the tank back in shape at which time she will turn back into her lovely self.
sorry

I took a soft toothbrush to the rock after turning off the filter. I couldn't see anything coming off though. I tried to scrape it with an algae scraper but nothing came off then either. Do you see chunks of coralline when you scrape or is it just too tiny to see? Think brushing with a soft toothbrush will do it?

the smaller the pieces the more you will have spread over the rock.
i've been using b-ionic and my coralline is going nuts. i sent thud the following bottle of coralline but haven't heard from him:

Wow, those are HUGE pieces of coralline. Will a toothbrush even get coralline off of a rock? I don't know if it's hard to scrape off or if it's soft.
Lemme go find something on b-ionic.

heh, that was out of my ubend in my overflow/skimmer box. i am constantly finding big chips of coralline in my prefilter. thud was actually more interested in the chips for some reason. in your case, just keep taking a toothbrush to your new rock maybe once a week and turn your pumps off. you'll get some coralline growth in no time :)

you don't want to scrape the coralline off the rock, you just want to promote spore growth.

Ahhh, gotcha, so the toothbrush should work. I know I have neon green aglae all over one of my rocks so I guess coralline will grow, I just need to get some purple going. Thanks!

Your tank is still really young. A little patients. Mine started growing really at a steady rate around 4-5 months. Then you'll get tired of scraping it off where you don't want it to grow.
It always grows over my intake guard openigs the most.
Oh and let's not forget the themometer. and powerheads.

technically it can if the sand is big enough, but if you have red stuff growing on your sand do a search for cyano or red slime. that's more likely the case.
