I have a 1 gal pico that currently has 7 watts 7600K of lighting.
Would a light system with this be over kill??
Coralife, 9" Mini Aqua light Fixutre
9watts 10,000K
9watts Actinic

That would be 18 watts per gal.....

Would it make the zoas and rics more colorful??
What about algae growth??
Thanks for your reply......

I think it would help. If there isnt excess nutrient in the water then it should do nothing but good :)

May I ask this:
Would a 10,000K provide more for this tank than the current 7600K??
Also would a 9 watt bulb be to much on the ballast if I currently run a 7 watt??

if the ballast is made for a 7 watt bulb, the 9 watters won't work with it. you need to change the ballast.
i think the actinic lamp is the one you will pick up more color with.

watts per gallon as a rule is totally useless. you need to consider the par (intensity of the bulbs) and those low power PC bulbs just arent very powerful, it will look bright to the eye but can only be considered low to medium light when it comes to corals.

for better color maybe go with 14k and actinic

algaes are more dependant on nutrients than actual light spectrum, unfortunatly for us hobbyists every spectrum our corals can use algae can use, though it prefer more towards the red spectrum. that sais your more likley to have accellerated algae growth under 65-72k as they are heavy in the red and yellow spectrum and algaes trhive uunder those lighting conditions.

76000k will deffinetly cause lots of algea and growth in that tank..ppl usually use that color temp for fuge and frag tank..i'd go 14k or even 20k..is this ur first tank...might be tuff keeping water stable..u really have to pay attention to cleanliness..

No this is not my first tank, I started in this hobby 4 yrs ago with my 10 gal nano. It did "to well" all the live rock I bought was covered with corals and everything was getting so big for the tank size.
So why not upgrade you say??? The reason $$$$$ we pay very dearly here in Canada for all saltwater stuff. I would have to get rid of all my liverock and start over, so I sold everything from the 10 gal to a friend with a 125 gal.
To go and buy new rock now would be just a huge cost, so I decided that there were a couple things I could not part with and that was my zoas frags and gsp.
I put this stuff into a 1 gal pico and so mainly it is a little frag tank with a small clown goby. I could not part with everything and wanted to keep my foot in the hobby just a "tiny" bit.......

My previous 10 gal had those PC

in ones on it and things grew to that huge size so things did well for me.
This little tank I have right now which I love and have no issues with water etc is doing very well. The frags in it are growing well, the gsp need to be cut back as they have doubled in size since I did this tank 4 months ago.
I can get a 50/50 light for this little tank and I just might go this way or buy the coralife 9" mini aqualight. Finding a way to place that light would be the challenge though.
So that is the story of my mini ocean......
