sorry self admitted thread theif... but are royal grammas as aggressive as pseudo chromis's ..... i had one of those and he was just mean.... i had such a terrible time catching him for removal that i was so mad that i actually fed him to my purple long tanticle anemony

Royal grammas and pseudo chromis are actually considered highly territorial, not aggressive. They generally act defensive only when something is within a short distance of their spot.
My faves:
Large angel, Imperator
Small angel, Coral beauty
Butterfly, Ranfordi (please don't buy these get my 2'nd favorite instead, Puntato)
Tang, Scopas
Clownfish, Tomato
Damsel, blue green chromis
Anthias, Lyretail
Goby, Large-Scissortail, small- pearly jawfish
Grouper, Miniatus
Lionfish, Volitan
Puffer, Dogface
Trigger, Clown
Wrasse, Harlequin Tusk

The tank is 40 gallons. Is it a 40 tall? It does not matter if it looks like more. If it is 40 gallons, then it is 40 gallons. How many lbs of rock do you have? Can you give us the dimentions of the tank?

My favorite reef safe fish is a Wartskin angler which really are reef safe. I don't suggest that being your first fish because they cost around 200 dallors.

it's a 40 tall I GUESS....like....it's not taller than it is wide, but it's taller than the average 55 gallon aquarium i think. It looks taller anyway. taller but less wide than a 55, and "deeper" like, from you to the wall back away from you. I don't have the exact demensions, other than the fact tht it's 36 inches wide. I have no idea how tall though. I threw away the paper.
Today I went to the LFS and traded in some wild caught goods for store credit = ) I gave them a bunch of musk turtles I caught and a coupel fish from my freshwater tank for like 60 bucks credit, and got 2 convict blennies, a cleaner shrimp, and a 6 line wrasse. I haven't seen the wrasse since I put him in, he dissapeared in the rockwork. I also got some frozen mysis shrimp for food cause I had like 5 bucks in credit left over. Oh and theres about 25 pounds of live rock in there right now, but tomorrow I think I'm gonna go buy about another 15 pounds or so and maybe a couple coral frags (I have good lighting, don't worry)
So I still need a couple more fishes for my tank, so keep the suggestions rolling = ) how are coral beauty's? I hear they're pretty nice but do they justify the price tag? around here you can't get them for under 35 bucks. and flame angels are like 60 lol.

CB's are nice, but you just got 3 fish. Don't get anything else for at least a month. Watch your water levels very carefully. You are only supposed to add one fish per 3 weeks. Your biological filtration will have difficulty keeping up with the bioload. Have mixed water ready for changes if need be. Your levels will not spike right away, but they will. Be ready.

ok thanks. I know you aren't supposed to add amany at once, but it's just 3 very small fish (like an inch long) so I didn't think it would affect it that much. It doenst make much sense that you can only do 1 fish, nomatter if its an inch long or 5 inches long. obviously one 5 inch fish is harder on a bioload than 3 1 inch fish, right? But anyway, I know not to add anything else, I'm just trying to figure out the logic. I'm gonna go buy more live rock today though and add that. It's fully cured, the LFS sells it out of their display tanks, and the peices have been in there for months on end, so there should be like zero dieoff

On the live rock, make sure they keep it in water and not wrap it in wet paper or you will still have die-off.
You biofilter is new and just established to an empty tank. Now you added fish that eat and poop. This will rot and increase your amm which your biofilter will have to grow to keep up. With more fish you feed more then you would with one and they poop more then one. Please slow down or you will spend a lot of money on dead fish.

Hands down my porc puffer, he was just like a small puppy. Unfortunately he died recently.
My family convinced me to get a dwarf lion and he is rapidly becoming my second favorite.
