Zebra Dwarf Lionfish

I have just purchased a zebra dwarf lionfish. I was wondering the best way to get him to start eating. I have tried thawed silversides, but he does not seem interested and my porcupine puffer eats them before he gets much of a chance to figure out whats going on. But he doesnt seem very interested anyway. Any advice would be appreciated. He only comes out at night so any help would be great.

You can pick up a feeder stick from your LFS to feed, this will let you directly feed the lion. Try squid or Octo chunks, Raw Shrimp, Frozen krill thawed and so on. If you are trying the silver sides, stick with smaller chunks, break the sliverside in half. If your lion is coming out at night try feeding when the lights are out to see if the lion will go for that.
Try the frozen if the lion will not take the frozen food than feed live ghost shrimp, but feed the ghost shrimp something nutritional before feeding them to your lion.
Try and try again weaning the lion over to frozen foods, it will come around, it just takes time and patience. The Dwarf Zebras are basically the same care as the fuzzy dwarf lion.

I would also suggest the ghost shrimp to get him started eating in his/her new environment. I just got my new fuzzy over to frozen. Only took her two separate feedings of ghost shrimp a few days apart for her to start associating me with food. Be patient and soon your lion will be camped out near the top of the tank when you're around, waiting for you to drop something in.

I have a 125 gallon comunity tank I already have a dwarf zebra lionfish in it, is there any way I could also put a fuzzy dwarf in it? Any thoughts on this are appreciated. Maybe someone out there has tried this and will share their results?

depends on the gender of the lions. it has to do w/ the stripes, males have fewer than the females. vlion knows it wait for her

I have found the best way to get lions on frozen food is to let them get hungry then use a silver side on a feeding stick to get them to eat
my volitan went 5 days before eating and then when he got hungry the silver side sudenly looked really good
but if they go any more than a week id add some ghost shrimps

Any ideas on how to keep my porcupine puffer away when trying to feed my dwarf lionfish?
The easiest way I have found to feed the puffer and lion combo, drop food in the tank opposite of where the fuzzy is when you are going to feed. Keep the puffer busy....lol
This is hit and miss, they may fight or harass each other, in my experience my Fuzzy dwarf would not allow another dwarf (even a female fuzzy) but I have read where others have done this with no problems. If the zebra is already established than you add the fuzzy you may have better luck than if you already had the fuzzy.
If you try it good luck,
