Zebra Moray

Ok, for my bday I'm getting a 90g tank and I'm getting a Zebra Moray to be housed by itself in that tank or with one Lionfish. I've been searching on the internet and have come to a delima. Some of the websites say that It will grow to 4' 9" long, which is what I want because I will upgrade the tank once he gets bigger. BUT some of the websites say that they will get a max of 18", but its the same eel. Which one do I believe?

Thanks...well acutally my bday is september 3rd, but I'm planning on getting the tank early since I'm not spending the money on a stand that is more expensive than the tank itself and that you have to get down on your knees to be eye level with. I'm going to build a stand.
Anyways back to the topic, I guess I'll try to get one from one of the websites that says 4'9" just in case, if it doesn't get that big, oh well, zebra eels have been known to live for 15 or more years, so I will ahve a good companion lol.

When I lived in Hawaii 10 years ago, I had a SFE, and a Zebra together in a 55 for along time. I really enjoyed them alot. I paid $15 each for them then.

my zebra is 3 feet along let me know if you want pics

oh and by the way when i bought mine there was another one to choose from that was 3 and half feet long and about as big around as the thick end of a louisville slugger

The Zebra Moray's max length is 4.9 ft, it is rare to see them over the 3.5 ft mark, they are very cool. If your looking for a bigger eel, look at the Tesselatta, they have the same colors but a, I think, cooler pattern AND they are hartier. The Max length is over 5.5 ft I think, but they are pretty hartie.

yeah i had a 4 ft tess and he was real tuff...the first night i got him i put all sort of heavy thing on the glass canopy and he still was strong enough to get out, when i found him he wasnt moving but was still alive a was a little slimy but i put him back in and in a few days he was eating ...love him...went on vacation and power went out and so did my filter he died havent been able to find another one i have liked enough to buy good luck jason

Thanks for the the info, I want to stick with the zebra eel because I'm going to get one that is brown and white. I also like how they are more docile, and they aren't nocturnal, but active during the day.

Is your tess eating that shrimp, or allowing it to clean his mouth. If it is letting it clean his mouth, that is awsome!

the shrimp has decided he will clean out all of there mouths now....... anyways what does everyone thing about a cleaner wrasse??????? Als i was wondering everyones oinion on moon lighting with the eels?????

I got moon lighting and it is really nice I had it already in my lighting so I just run both of them on timers and it makes it really nice.

Hey, Docholiday, did you get your tess at a LFS or online, because it is the most stunning one I have ever seen.

Do you mean "big bastar$" in a good way? How thick is the zebra eel would you say?
