i know they wont sting sps corals. i have xenia touching sps.
the xenia can shade the sps though, which could harm it if it doesnt get enough light.

no but if they die they can dump a suprising amount of amm, trite and trate back into your tank making a large colony a risk in a clean SPS setup.

I have had bad luck with Xenia. It would be growing like weeds for months then overnight it would all die. This happened to me on 3 or 4 times before I gave up on it. It will dump a lot of ammonia into the tank like reefkprz mentioned.

Xenia is a very "IFFY" coral, some people CANNOT get it to thrive others just cant get rid of it fast enough, each tank should be considered a case by case basis. There are several factors that factor in Xenia success, but they generally like some nitrate, phosphates, and require iodine.

actually its not hardy, and is an extremly poor shipper, usually once its in peoples tanks it either flourishes or dies, some people just cant keep it at all. but if it flourishes it can grow super fast. and occasionally it just bunks out on some one who has had it for a long time for no apparant reason.

hopefully this will be perfect for my tank my nitrate is between 5 to 8 , 10 with phosphates problem and most of my corals are softy so iodine is a must with metal halide i so can start sps and start selling my softy

my trates (havnt tested po4 in a while but run a remover)stay at zero but i do feed my fish 2-3 times a day. my zenia just pops up everywhere so i am always trading it in along with my chaeto that also grows like mad when the stalks make it up to the sps on the top out the zenia go if i wait to long they usually hit my horn first at it stings the crap out of them and keeps it in check until it splits and goes around
