Great tank and pics! I'lll be right behind you also, I've got a 40B here I'm planning to turn into a zoa-dominated tank. Just waiting for me to get the plumbing done

Those Nightmares are extraordinary!

Hey hey!! I see montipora caps up there!!!
Good eye. I was given a red and a purple, wanted to try sps a little and thought they would do well up at the top where the light is too intense for anything else I have.
They never did too well in my ric dominated tank but thought they might do OK in a zoa dominated tank. Will be a good indicator of water quality in resects to organics, calcium levels, etc.

Well if yours worked without a chiller you might have saved me some money
. Have you been satisfied with the stock Finnex skimmer? I Can't decide between keeping it, or selling it and my prism skimmer and buying a AquaC, Octopus, or Euroreef. And what ATO do you run?

I would sell it and go with something else. I don't use mine. Just never really cared for skimmers much. But I don't have fish except for a couple anglers and in a different tank. If I had a large fish load and feeding daily it would be different. I do water changes when the corals look like they need it. Pretty much how I run the tanks. Not real scientific I know, but so far it works OK.
ATO is a JBJ but the electronic modual quit working after a couple months so I rigged the float swith to a power head direct. I couldn't find my reciept so JBJ wouldn't replace or repair it. Live and learn.

Do you add any supplements for them??

I have pretty much always used kalkwasser in top-off and Kent's Iodine (4-8 drops per day per 50gls), Kent's Moly/stront (4-5 drops per day per 50 gls) and Kents liquid calcium as per directions. I tryed Salifert All In One but wasn't real impressed with the way the rics and zoas were taking it so went back to the old regime. They have since looked pretty happy and fat. I have used it at 1/4 dose to up the alk from time to time though.
Some will chime in probably about not using what isn't tested for. I was just letting you know what I do and it works and has since I started keeping reef tanks in early 90's. No problems so far, just awesome corals and growth.

Flricoridia,
I know I have asked you this before about feeding them. And now I asked you about supplements. Thanks for your reply by the way......:)
As you know my little tank of 1 gal has ric ans zoo's. No fish only one crab should I be adding anything to it besides the normal water changes??
I would like to see more growth in them, but don't want to cause water troubles either. If there is one supplement I could add for the extra help what would that be??
I use Instant Ocean Salt, I have been doing water changes every week, don't know if that is necessary with no fish in there??
Daily top ups but not as much as you would think just a tiny bit and the top is open too.

If I had a 1 gl I wouldn't add anything. I would use a better salt, maybe Redsea pro or Tropic Marin. I would expect that you would see better growth. IO is not a salt I personally care for, though some swear by it. More than once I have seen algae appear when switching to its use, and not just in my tanks but others that decided cheaper is better.
One friend of mine switched from Reef Crystal use in her 75gl reef she had going for over a year to IO. After a couple months the hair algae was so bad it was chocking out some of the corals. I talked her into going back to -- and after about 3-4 months time the algae was gone and the coraline was astounding. Kalk in top-off was also used continuously as was Kent's Iodine, Moly/stront and Kent's liquid calcium. Same as what I have used as you read in my other post.
THe coraline grew in rosettes. It was awesome looking.

Thanks Flricoridia....

I am also waiting for my 50/50 bulb to come in and still trying to decide if that coralife 9" 18 watt is a fixture that I should get???
I am wanting to make a nice wood canopy for the light system no matter what way I go so it looks nice and finished. I don't know if that 18 watt would do well being in a canopy type thing or not due to the heat it apparently throws.

How do you reverse a 35mm lens? PLEASE EXPLAIN !!

Turn a 52mm, 100mm 35mm format camera lens around and upto the digital camera lens. You have to be within inches of the subject to focus. This is a common practise for macro shots with 35mm formate. A reversing ring is fitted between the camera's mounted lens and the reversed lens so they are mounted together though only a few digital point and shoots have this capability. All 35mm format cameras do. Learned all this when I was doing field research of herpetological species, namely serpents, amphibians and chelonians

Canon 570. I reverse a 35mm lens on it to get really close up.
What do you mean you reverse a 35mm lense.....do you mean literally that you just hold it up backwards?
