Zoo help

Will my Zoo's come back? They have been closed up for a couple of weeks now and I'm still trying to figure out the problem. One of the problems may have been that my Sal. dropped from about 1.023 to 1.020. Also, my nitrates had spiked to about 40ppm but are now back to 20ppm. If I get my paramters back in line will the zoo's open up again or are they gone?

They should come back. Can you show us a picture? Have you figured out why the Trates went so high? How often do you do a water change?

I'll try and get a picture up. Not sure why the trates went up. I did 2 water changes within a week to get them down. I'm toyin with the idea of getting an Ecosystem reefugium as I understand that they do a great job controlling the nitrates. I currently have a wet/dry filter with protien skimmer. I should also mention that the tank is only about 2 months old. The zoo's came with some of the LR.

This is not a great picture. All of my close ups had to much glare. The zoo's are on the right hand corner.

I can't tell anything from that pic. What size is that tank BTW and number of power heads?

Here are some more pictures. I still don't know why it's not coming out better. The tank is sold as a 32 gallon (but that includes a built-in compartment for the wet-dry filter) - I'm guessing the actual space for the fish is more like a 29 gallon. It has 1 55W Actinic Blue light and 1 55W Day light. The power head is 343 gph.

Atleast it is not a tang. Ha! Still the lemonpeel needs a 50 gal.+ tank. Ensure you suppliment his feedings with nori or seaweed select sheets until you can move him into a larger tank. Just my opinion, not flaming you.

I was looking at getting an Ecosystem hang-on reefugium. It defeats having the "built-in" wet/dry filter but if I get a better more consistent water quality I think it may be worth it. Any thoughts?

Yes, the nano section should be able to help you but basically you place live rock rubble and chaeto in where the floss goes. Instead of the hang on type.

Not to sound stupid but what is chaeto and floss? The ecosystem uses "Miracle Mud" is chaeto the same thing? Would I place it on the drip trays or pull them out all together?

Chaeto is an algea that removes trates from the water

Chaeto is a type of macroalgae that you can harvest in your refugium. I use gracilara, which is a red macroalgae and it does not need to be anchored, it just floats freely. It grows like crazy with the right light on it and really sucks up the nitrates.
Floss is just what people say instead of the white or black filter fabric.

just a thought you might want to see if there is anything like nudis irritating them or little zoo spiders after lights if so you could do a lugol's iodine/ fresh r/o dip on them it will kill these but not the eggs of nudis. those need to be picke off w tweezers. oh theres also a snail that feeds on zoos also
