ZooMed PowerSweep

It swivals back and forth like, yeah it will make wave movements as it goes back and forth, i used mine to mix salt.

I have one zoo med in my tank and it works fine. I was looking for a gradule wave action, but this power head does not do this. It sweeps back and forth rather fast when you have the water flow turned all the way up. Another thing is that the swivel action is very suseptable to algea and must be cleaned on a regular basis.
For a cheap wave maker I think that this is a fine power head, and pretty good suction cup mounting bracket as well

The only one I ever messed with was constantly needing to be cleaned or it would stop moving. It now is a stationary PH in my fish only.
I have heard that they recently improved the design though. Maybe it'll be less maintenance intensive with the new changes.

I had one that stopped moving back and forth. they all die unless you clean them very frequently. I would not get one...

I'm sure you've realized they're not worth it by these replies. When they first came out, all the pet stores around me had them. Than a week later, I didn't see one pet store with one that was still turning! Now I never see them in the display tanks, or its turned into a stationary powerhead.

they make a aternating current style power strip I have found them for 25$ before that turn the powerheads on and off in different areas. that might be something like what you need. there are many brands of them I dont know if one is better than another though.

I placed bio-balls on the suction side of my power heads, to prevent snails and fish from getting pulled in. Yes, I should upgrade to ones with strainers. If th power goes out, pump loses suction, and the bio-ball might float away.
Works pretty good for a cheap and quick strainer.

O ok that makes since then....
the make small strainers for the underside of them. the hagen are huge but there are small one or small pieces of foam can elleminate that as well. my old tank I used fishing line and a foam block cut what I needed and sewed the foam onto the PH. worked like a charm and cheap.
