From my experience, I have been able to make zoanthids grow from 5 or 6 polyps and cover a rock about 4-5 inches accross in less than 5 months. All depends on system lighting and water, and the type of zoanthids you get.
I usually temp acclimate them, do some water exchange for about 30 minutes and then put them in, or attach them to a rock of my choice.

I'd say rather quickly, within a few months they should double, triple or even better. Everyones results will vary.
