    At a loss

I have housed an eel in there for a month and other than his appetite decreasing he did fine. It's a bare hospital tank, and I added some seed bacteria to it for 7 days to help stabilize the bio filter. Should I add live rock to it?

    At a loss

Well might have an update to the reasoning. I did my water tests and ph was 8.0, Ammonia was 0, My nitrites were ridiculously high at 2.0!!!, and my nitrates were at 0. What could have caused such a nitrite spike and how should I prevent that in the future??

Yea, I mean my wife would most likely be home, so would it work if I just had her float the bag untill I get home from work?

    At a loss

Yea, I'm really thinking of ordering online but I run into the problem of working till 6pm every day. I want to support the LFS because it took forever to finally get one out here but they tend to give me shady advice too.

    At a loss

I agree, the only problem is I order it from them and when it arrives I get excited. It's a bummer cause that's been the fish I've been waiting for and it didn't even make it two days in qt. It had like a slime substance coming off of its fins and on its face when he died if that helps narrow it...

    At a loss

The tank has been set up for about 2 months now. I've had the snowflake eel in there and he had no problems, just less appetite. The lion didn't eat at all for me, and they had just got him in earlier the day I bought him. I do water changes 25% every two weeks on the qt.

    At a loss

Well, I finally got my display tank cleared up of velvet and treated and moved my snowflake eel back in. So I got to the excited moment where I could get my lionfish. I bought a fu manchu lion on Thursday and got him into my quarantine tank. He didn't eat on Friday and today I woke up and he...

    Foam Under tank???

I use foam underneath my freshwater tank. I only do it so if while doing water changes any splashes ovee, it won't warp or damage the stain on my stand.

Can I just do this too acclimate my fish?

I prefer the drop method just incase any water from the bag spills over. Just my little safety precautions

Need more details on the tank your looking to set up. Tank size, corals or fowlr?

    need some advice

Yep, I need to figure a good way to block off one part of the opening in the hood and he'll be secure. I haven't heard that it does with ich but with velvet it supposedly fast forward their life cycle. Since it'll be fish less I might as well give it a go

    need some advice

Yea I have live rock so I'm gonna move my eel into qt. To speed up the life cycle of the parasite since my dt will be empty, I'm gonna crank up the heater. Will an eel be alright going from my dt to a bare hospital tank? I've got him some pvc sections so he has a hiding place.

    need some advice

Yea I was hoping they couldn't survive off of him alone. Would it be alright if I used the water from the display tank to start the qt tank? Since the eel is alone in the dt could I just treat the dt while I wait for the qt to be established? And bang guy, thank you :). Lol I've been trying to...

    need some advice

Well, the velvet outbreak in my aquarium killed all my fish except for my snowflake eel. I have been treating with rid ich plus. I didn't have a quarantine in place and so I know how I contracted the parasite. So I bought a 20 gallon quarantine. :) My question is, since the eel is not showing...

    Fish death

Yea, I've noticed that :( . I'm trying to pinpoint how it got in my tank though and the only thing I can think of would be the live rock. I don't think the eel brought it in and those are the only two things that have changed in my tank substantially in the past month.

    Fish death

Yea, I just don't have a quarantine tank so it's a little tricky to leave my tank completely Fish less that long. :/ I'm assuming it's velvet, I think ich was more of my hope than velvet. My wife and kids and I had to move back into my parents recently so the space becomes a issue on getting a...

    Fish death

Yea I've got sand and rock. This disaster made me realize the importance of a qt tank. So far my two fish have appetites again. They look healthy but I'm gonna stick with the 3-4 day treatment and water changes to make sure.

    Fish death

Yea, I looked it up and it is a copper product. I don't have any invertebrates or coral, but by using this product will that prevent me from getting any in the future?

    New Tank

I would recommend not getting black sand. I had a friend with black sand and it really shows everything on the sandbed. You need to decide if you are keeping peaceful or aggressive fish, but with your tank size you would be limited on aggressive fish

    Fish death

I picked up rid ich for it as it was the closest meds that wouldn't do much harm to my tank. My tang died this morning, now I'm down to just my damsel and snowflake eel. I started the treatment and hopefully it will wipe out whatever it is, or atleast keep my fish alive.
