complete rock growing kit

don’t believe it, don’t waste your money that way man! $99 and then shipping?? i mean lets try to analize this 'rock growing kit'. what can it be, calcium, some buffering agent to rise PH and that’s likely it! I mean coralline algae doesn’t need much more than that, so instead buy some...

how essential is a protien skimmer for a 55 gal. new reef setup?

IMO, a skimmer is important for ANY mini-reef tank... it must be good for it pulls out much smelly and dirty crap, so it does clean the water somewhat right? i would never run a system without one :)

    jodemans red slime topic picture

i dont know guys, i cannot see any cyanobacteria... looks more like some brown kind of hair algae?? not sure from that pic. cyano covers everything, like a mat, that i know.

    Anthias / Hawkfish compatibility

yes, they and most places are just general that way. you would need to do more search on particular species of these fish, and i'm sure somewhere on the net you can find someone that already did some experimenting... so i'd do a search.

    slow day!!Not anymore!!

wow... beautiful stuff guys, I especially like NM reef pictures. see those dark green mushrooms in the back? they have already developed three mouths it seems, so they will split that way I guess... so cool, I guess keeping up those water changes is what works so well for you NV. and Adrian...

    another red slime question

circulation helps, but in itself wont stop the bacteria, i tried that too when problems striked a few times. instead, just skim more, raise calcium and also PH considerably, and the cyanobacteria will stop spreading and slowly begin dying over a few days period. Believe me, in fact, most tanks...

    A + for ***** ...

well.. i've bought many fish from *****... key is making a good judgment on the health of the fish you would like to buy. whenever i buy a healthy fish from them, they will stay healthy and have no problems at all. ALRIGHT! ALLOW ME TO ADMIT IT! ALLLLLL THE FISH I HAVE IN MY THREE TANKS CAME...

    Mushrooms coming off rock!

nah... it takes long for certain shroom types to gain 'confidence' and open up again. they will open up to a few days. they can be left on the sand, and will open there too. but if you have the time and patience, you can try pushing them into a crevice of your live rock, they will attach within...

    my first reef

sure its true... some low light stuff like SOME leathers, SOME mushrooms, AND SPONGES ESPECIALLY. also most corals that do not contain zooxanthella algae or certain gorgonians that only feed on plankton and not by means of zooxanthella are also suitable to keep in a lowly lit tank. take care. do...

    Mushrooms coming off rock!

nope, doubt they are dying... umm we are talking about shrooms mind you :) . you didn’t give more info, but it could be a few things... ONE, you just got them recently and their lighting is insufficient and they are trying to find a new 'spot'. TWO, water chemistry has shifted and they are also...

    3 foods?

DT Phytoplankton: considered best because its supposed to be 'live' plankton. many use it and claim its good. i used it for a while too and found that its OK, but I couldn't see any special difference. I now buy my plankton foods from <a href="http://www.brineshrimpdirect.com"...

I got a yellow wrasse... about 3 1/2 inches. love him. brilliant yellow color. very docile. never seen bothering any of the inverts (shrimps/crabs/snails). had him for about 8 months now. He looks more and more beautiful the longer I have him. i actually scared him couple weeks ago and he jumped...

What to feed my Sailfin Tang?

they will feed on nearly anything that is labeled 'fish food' and is small enough to fit in their mouths... flakes are especially eagerly consumed. nori sheets can be bought very cheaply from www.brineshrimpdirect.com but i should...

What type of phytoplankton should I buy?

i'm surprised no one mentioned www.brineshrimpdirect.com i buy ALL my foods from them. awesome and nutrition packed IMO. they have a concentrate of cryo-algae pastes and many different types of them... i recently bought the 'tahitian...

    Just a matter of opinion

yep, someone said that the light comming from direct sunlight to the tank will get filtered (spectrum wise) and will cause algae blooms that way. sounds good to me. and yes, keeping the heat down will be a big problem IMO.
