Ammonia problem

my girlfriend has just set up a 30 galleon and its been set up for about 3-4 weeks now and her ammonia is still about 1.0 what can she do to lower it?

nothing really just let the cycle takes its course, how did you start the cycle by the way?

yea i put some flakes in there and i think she also has some nitrates in there right now too, would there be ammonia without the cycle starting yet?

actually its going as planned, first you will see ammo, then trites then trates, when the ammo and trites are gone for about a week or so and the trates rise then your ready to add a fish(one only) and go slowly after that. its called the nitrogen cycle do a search and you will have alot of info that will enlighten you.

You have to build up the nitrogen fixing bacteria in your tank! This will take a few days to a few weeks... Good luck buddy!
