Hi Ret,
I've referenced some of your info in the past but had no idea you were here with us at SWF.

Hey, Socal57che!
I am indeed an enthusiastic Saltwaterfish.com customer, and I really respect Scott Hughes (owner of Saltwaterfish.com). I am pleased to be able to write a blog for the site (www.SaltwaterSense.com if you have not seen it), and I'm jazzed to share the love for Saltwaterfish.com on Facebook. If you're on fb, do ask all your friends to join the Saltwaterfish.com group where I will be posting Saltwaterfish.com specials, answering questions and just spreading the word about this great online resource for marine aquarists!
Thanks for saying "hi"!
Ret

oops, I actually forgot to join after posting. I'm such a poo poo head.

I just tried to use facebook again after who knows how long, and I got error messages every time I clicked on something and the screen locked up a dozen times, no to mention the "big country" profile the link kept taking me to. Too big of a pita to continue, sorry.

So if I make saltwaterfish one of my Facebook 'whatever', can I then immediately kill it so I can have one more 'victim' towards my free Whopper?

really i would have thought the other way around :p.
I work with high schoolers and have both facebook and myspace accounts to connect with them, but I always encourage my kids to go with facebook. I conducted a few tests and here's what I found:
Facebook has clean advertisments. Most of the ad's on myspace are pictures of scandalous ladies saying things like "meet local singles tonight" which clutter the page.
Myspace defaults all member pages as public pages... you have to change the settings deep within the menu's to make them private. Anyone can go onto myspace without an account and access young girls pictures and locations... pretty scary! Facebook defaults all accounts as private. In fact, unless you have a facebook account, you cannot even see anyone's name or picture. The facebook home page has ONLY a login or setup option.
I made two separate email addresses and used one to open a myspace account, and the other for a facebook account. I did not give these email addresses to any other company or organiztion. I let the email accounts sit for a month. The email account i set up with myspace after only one month had 2163 spam emails, some of them from adult sites. The email account I set up with facebook had 0 spam emails.
I like facebook's cleaner interface and live chat option. Myspace copied many of facebook's ideas... status updates and picture tagging are a few.
There has been much debate as to how much information facebook is giving to companies, but I've found that it's anonymous data. They're not giving out names, but statistics. I'd rather be an anonymous statistic to a company than have my name and email address given out everywhere, which is what myspace is doing.
In light of these findings, I much prefer facebook.
