how do i tell if my carpet is dying? my heater went haywire this week and went to 100.
I slowly brought my temp back down. everything is fine now but my carpet is in a bunch
instead of laid out like it usually is.

bring it to the surface and smell it. If it smells bad, it could be dying or dead. if not just give it time.

Sounds ok, as long as its keeping its color, but check your water paramiters as well. At 100 degrees you would have been loosing alot of oxygen in the water column. If you have a skimmer then use it. If not then perhaps use a air stone for a little while away from strong currents just to help oxygenate the water. Better still do a 30% water change using well mixed and aeriated water if you suspect anything bad from the excessive heat that you experienced.
