Closed loop

I'm about to make a closed loop for my 37 gal and I have one question, can the system be hung on the back of the tank or the pump should "sit" on a sort of base?
Below is a photo (not mine and can't remember the author) of the system I'm thinking about

Check that the pump you are useing can be ran externally. Most small powerheads must be submerged.
I think it would be best to have the pump supported somehow....IDK why but just my thoughts.

with that design the weight of the pump would cause it to sit awkward so a base is recomended.

I'd support it somehow if you don't want to hear the pump rattling all the time.
You can get those flex returns at a number of places. Just do a search on "loc-line ball socket aquarium" and a few places should come up.
