Feather duster gone CRAZY

Last night My featherduster started crawling out of its tube. just wigling around like it was on fire. This morning he was wiggling on the sandbed with a tiny portion of his wormbody "cut" or bit off. the duster is fully opened. I picked it up and placed it on some pourus live rock hoping maybe it would anchor itself and make a new skin.
All my levels are doing good.fully cycled, yet not fully established 20g
Any ideas??? this was very strange for me. I couldnt find anything on this sort of behaviour online.

They will jump out of their tubes if they are stressed or don't like where you placed them. If it doesn't get eaten first it will build a new tube.
