bionic, my comments about Switzerland was just to compare a society where guns are the norm and not viewed as Public Enemy No. 1 (as is the case with some segments of government and society in the USA). I am familiar with the Swiss system, but I was not suggesting that the USA re-invent our own military to emulate Switzerland. Come on, I think you know what my point was.
You referenced Switzerland as an example of how a country that has some of the least restrictive gun laws, at the same time also having less gun crimes. I showed you why. There's a difference between properly training their citizenry on the use of those types of weapons (even to the point of being ready to take on a military role if required), than having millions of idiots in this country that walk down to their local gun shop, by whatever gun some dealer will sell them, then the only "training" they receive is whatever they read in the instruction manual that came with the gun, or some YouTube video. Try passing a law in this country that stipulated you couldn't purchase ANY type of firearm before going through an intensive military-style training course on the proper operation and usage of that weapon.

I suppose we could in fact force the "militia" part of the 2nd to be enforced, and require every citizen to go through the same training and requirements as Swiss citizens. We could then completely dismantle our US military forces, and rely solely on our citizenry to protect our borders. Unfortunately, that would mean that you would be required to be deployed to any foreign military conflict, whether you choose to or not.
Within the next 10 years or so I think you will see us doing this very thing. Heavy on Army reserves with a much smaller full time force.

You'd have to find enough people willing to join. All these gun fanatics "talk the talk" when it comes to protecting their 2nd Amendment rights, but if the government implemented a mandatory draft and put these "gun owners" at the front of the line, their attitudes and desire to protect their 2nd Amendment rights would suddenly disappear.

There doesn't seem to be a lack of willing participants using voluntary forces to have enough active duty to fight two wars. Nearly all the "gun fanatics" I know are ex military who entered post draft. Your comment seems a little foolish.

Sure thing reef. And I can quote these same people, or other Founding Fathers that felt just the opposite.
A TV can't murder someone, an AR can. What's your point?
Your opinion is that the founders couldn't have foreseen modern firearms so we should assume they shouldn't be considered the arms covered by the second amendment. Well Fine. It's a sure bet they never envisioned mass media either so why should that be covered by the first?
And if you don't think the majority of the founders were concerned about a powerful central government why didn't they create a standing army until years after the constitution was ratified?

expanding on this,my "gun fanatic" father joined up voluntarily when there was a draft even. There should be a requirement that each individual spend 2-4 years inservice to their country in some form. Be it police, Fire fighter, military...what have you. maybe then more people woiuld appreciate things more instead of what we have now. if anything it would instill some discipline.
You comment I think stems more from your own percpective than anyone elses. Just because you would have problems with it doiesnt mean most gun owners would...............

This is stuff you would have to think Obama has known from the beginning, especially since his vice president had that thorough investigation. No AR15 was used and Lanza was denied a gun during the background check when he tried to buy a rifle. Hmmmmm, something is really starting to stink about this push for new gun control and why the police and media never reported this sooner...like BEFORE making executive orders and having bad legislation submitted to congress.
p.s. NO!!! high-capacity magazines were used either.

Yeah, I never noticed that. It was posted by a friend on FB and I just missed it. I wonder why the police initially said they found the AR15 in his car? But the point that still remains is the fact that he had been denied a rifle during the background check, which is why he used his mother's guns. So everything Obama did was pointless, if he's trying to use Sandyhook as the excuse.
