My Calcium is at about 240 right now. I need some help on raising it. I have Kent Liquid Calcium and some C-Balance on hand. I've been adding this stuff, but no rise in levels. What do you guys use to raise your calcium levels?

I use sea chem reef builder and reef advantage(for calcium & alkalinity) plus kalkwasser to maintain established levels. I add to top-off water on a daily basis. My levels have been stable at calcium-450ppm..alkalinity-2.8-3.5 meg/l for several months now.Best advise is to develope a system of additives that build the levels you desire and develope a plan to maintain those levels at a stable range. Takes time and patience but there are numerous additives to use ...each works...just research a lil more and develope a plan that will work for you and your system.

Do you do water changes???? Usualy if you maintain your water changes your levels will stay above 320 or so... Not to say that is enough but 240 sounds way way to low. What is your ALK at?

We do water changes every 7-10 days. For a 38 gallon tank we change 5 gallons. Alkalinity has been around 3.2. All parameters have been normal except calcium which I can't seem to raise.

Hi BettrDaz,
I've never had much luck with the Kent Liquid Calcium. It's calcium chloride only, and it by itself never performed well for me either.
I think NM reef's above recipe is about the best thing going, and is very similar to what I've found works best. Hard to beat that combination in my opinion.
If you are wanting to raise calcium, and like the convenience of using a liquid product, you may want to look into Seachem Reef Complete.
It will raise your calcium, and also contains magnesium and strontium. It has worked for me in the past.
One last thing - continue to monitor and adjust your alkalinity if necessary, and don't try to increase calcium level too fast. This can cause a decrease in your alkalinity. Then you are playing back and forth trying to get it back in balance.
Dosing Reef Complete every other day as directed raised mine back up - but it may take a couple few weeks to get you there. Slower is better IMO ;)
Think about what NM reef mentioned as well. This combination of products has given many short term results with long term stable success as well.
Good luck and let us know how things work out
:)

I use a 2 part buffer everyday to keep up with mine. Most would say thats to much. I have a huge coral load and it's what it takes. My water quality is always good. Kent Marines Tech cb is what I use, but the b-ionic is also good. :) CLICK HERE TO SEE MY REEF :)

Okay, so use the sea chem products to RAISE the calcium then kalkwasser later to maintain? Or use it to raise it then keep using it in ADDITION to the kalwasser?

I also use Oceans Blend. It's a two part system that takes care of everything your corals and plants need. You add it once daily before the lights come on in the tank and there is nothing else to do but watch your corals grow. I'm one of three distributors in Florida for Oceans Blend. It was invented in Orlando and is manufactured there. I wrote the SWF guys and asked them if they wanted to carry it. I haven't heard back from them. If anyone out there wants to try it, email me at dwfyock@comcast.net. This stuff really works. It's foolproof and easy. :D
