how many watts

I was told 4 watts per gallon then when I went to buy some they told me to many watts for my tank
30 gallon wanted 130 watts is this to much?

Really depends on the type of tank you want to have. If 'fish only', then lighting is not that important. If reef with many light demanding corals then 3-5 watts per gallon seems to be the 'accepted' standard. Also depends on the type of light...metal halides, T5's, high output fluros, etc. So you may want to post what you are going to want to have in the tank.

It's not all about watts. A 39 or 54 watt high output T5 with good reflectors will blow away a 65 watt PC.
